why can't Blender arrays handle simple parenting? I should be able to create a simple parent child setup with ONE parent and add an array mod to that parent and all the array copies are copies of the parent AND children in place. Why is that not possible and why hasn't anyone from Blender coding people implemented that? In general, why doesn't parenting simple work across the board as if you now have ONE object even though it is comprised of many? Thanks for this tutorial. I think this is the only one that might work that I've seen. All the rest are just using instances of ONE mesh. Or at least most are.

Seems like something basic that shouldnt need weird workarounds. How is this still a thing in 3.6

Make sure your display mode is set to scene or else you will not be able to set the child objects to the parent plane

the faces doesnt work, only the vertices

I don't understand what the need for the empty is. If you are arraying the grouping plane, what is the purpose of the empty?

Another operation that would be quick and easy in any other 3D program, Blender likes to keep things cryptic and mysterious... what's the fun in getting your projects to work like you want in little time? Blender ensures you'll waste hours trying to get scenes set up how you want them.

you could copy the object and move it and repeat with shift + R

I just did this without using any empty and it worked! ALSO, I was able to add a CURVE modifier just after the array modifier and IT worked too. So now I can take any number of objects and rotate them as one object around a pivot point using the array and curve modifiers. So, apparently, JUST parenting then arraying that object isn't enough for Blender 3.5.1. You have to parent ALL the real objects to a plane with instances on face turned on. That did the trick. Its hard to get an exact spacing tho. Trying to fudge the factor number and # of items but it's all good. You can just try till you get pretty close. thanks again for this example. FINALLY, I got some satisfaction.

is there an easy way to add random rotation to an array?
