Telling a blusher “don’t worry about it” is on a par with telling a depressive to “cheer up”

From a long-time blusher, I can tell you it seems IMPOSSIBLE to control blushing in certain situations. I had many tease me, and contemplated taking my own life as I hated myself so much. I felt others controlled my emotions, and could read me by my face. I dont mind blushing as much now, but am still considering getting a tattoo over my entire face.

Don't fight yourself from being red. Fight yourself from being scared of what others think. It's your own body.

Useful tips but you can’t take time like that to breathe if you have to speak or give a talk!! I have dealt with this problem my whole life, I’m 27 now. This issue is only beginning to fade now as I gain confidence in myself. Low self-esteem and low self-worth is the issue. Yes it is a fight-or flight response but only because you believe that you are under threat. You see others as a threat to your safety (I.e. if we are rejected by the tribe then we may die). If your sense of personal power is low, if your self-esteem and self-worth are low, and if you deeply rely on others’ validation and approval then any type of social engagement will bring some anxiety. For those with this issue you can probably agree with me that when you speak to another you are completely consumed by your thoughts (oh I bet I’m going red now, oh please don’t go red etc etc). Something that has helped me is to really sink into my body when I’m speaking, feel the strength in my legs, abdomen etc. I used to be all up in my head and completely unaware of my body. Sounds simple but literally choosing to feel the strength in my body gives me a sense of safety. When you’re all up in your head it’s like you have nothing to anchor you down, you’re spaced out. Really feel your core, that’s where your confidence and strength comes from. The safer you feel in your body the less turmoil there will be in your mind. Your thoughts are fed by your body, your nervous system etc. A calm body, nervous system and breath equals a calm mind and vice versa. Yes you can calm the body too via the mind but in my experience working with the body first and feeling safe in the body first has been a game changer for my mind. Practice, practice, practice. Good luck!👍🏻

The worst part of excessive blushing and something that adds to or maintains it is the lack of understanding and consideration from so many of those who do not have that issue. It would be great if schools in general helped accommodate students as such.

Blushing from social situations is a physical reflection of modesty, an attractive quality in a person )

I go so red and hot for no reason at all. You'll find me going bright red mid conversation, very casual conversation. Every man thinks I fancy him. I might just have to go on a sunbed a lot so it's less visible
