Testing Verizon's Ultra Fast 5G Network!

Apple isn't planning to launch a 5G iPhone until 2020, but carriers in the United States and other smartphone manufacturers like Samsung are already testing 5G, which offers download speeds that are much faster than 4G.

Verizon invited MacRumors to Chicago to test its 5G network, giving us an idea of what 5G speeds will be like when we can use 5G networks on our iPhones in 2020.

Most important thing we need to know is if there will be data caps. If so, all the speed gain is utterly useless

It’s funny that 4G speeds were topping out at 200 Mb/s and yet we’ll be marketed why we need 5G. You don’t need 5G. Basically, no one does.

faster speed is nice but 5G is more about capacity and consistency.

Amazing. We’re going to look at MBPS like we do at Megabytes and Megahertz one day.

Hopefully you add the Samsung note 10 5g to these and test together.

5g past 1.5gb is faster than some of the fastest. Home gigabit connections.

Any word if 5G is coming to Honolulu anytime soon?

The reason Netflix downloads so long over 4G LTE (on Verizon at least) is because downloads from the Netflix app are still considered "video" and Verizon limits the speed of how video is delivered, thus, you're likely only getting 1.5mbps downloading rather than the full network speed of the location you happen to be. With 5G, Verizon has removed any and all caps, throttles, and prioritizations, so you're going to get the full download in mere seconds as youre allowed to use the full network speed without restriction.

This is faster than my fibre internet connection

What do you think the chances are Verizon is caching the speed test file?

Shouldn’t you be blurring out those ads at the bottom of Speedtest’s app? 😅

I think there's some confusion about Verizon's data caps. Once you hit your data "cap" you are not automatically throttled to a slower speed. The way their network works is based off of both priority and load. Until you exceed your data cap your data is considered high priority and pushed ahead of anyone's data who has exceeded their cap and that really only affects you "during times of congestion" (according to Verizon themselves). So if you are not on a congested node it essentially should not matter how much data you've used because you're prioritized lower than only a few devices. 5G should also help with this because the network is so much more dense and there are so many more nodes to connect to.

What is snow going to do to this service? Rain?

I was told here in Seattle that Sprint is 5G ready but hasn’t been turned on yet. This may sound dumb but what exactly does this mean? If they have the infrastructure and the nodes why wouldn’t they turn it on?
