Matted Versus Healthy Sheep Shearing - Sheep 6 of 8

This is the sixth of eight sheep in this condition. The breed is Navajo Churro and their ideal shearing schedule is every 6 months. Because of life’s chaos, this herd was sitting at about 14 months of growth. Now that they have found our services, these sheep will be shorn on a proper schedule. This was a very emotional experience for all those involved. The owners were very helpful and concerned over the wellbeing of their flock. They attempted to shear a few before we arrived, but as you can see, that is a mountain of a task.🤘🏻

It’s interesting watching your trial and error process with this group. First one/two: damn, she’s sat on a massive chunk that’s now in the way. Next three: if we make that a separate flap instead of part of half the blanket, then we can pull it out more easily. This sheep: sod this, I’m just taking that first hip chunk off so it’s out of my way and not pulling on the sheep.

It may not be pretty, but it is functional, and you can do pretty next time now they are on a maintenance schedule rather than an emergency to deal with a mess. I am in awe of your ability to keep going when you are clearly knackered both mentally and physically. That’s will power and love of these animals. Especially when you are long since past the point of “ow this hurts”
