Levy! I am 62 years old. When I was 18 and a freshman college I was taking math classes and wanted to be a math major. My Advanced Calculus professor pulled me aside one day and asked me what my goals were. I said I wanted to do graduate work in math and teach math at the college level. He said, “You don’t have what it takes”. I was crushed. That was 44 years ago (see how good I am at math?). Anyways I just retired 3 years ago from teaching math at the college level for 34 years. IGNORE NEGATIVE PEOPLE. You either have what it takes or you don’t. You’ll find out. But for God’s sake don’t let the negative people have any bearing on your success!
PS. My wife hates chess but loves listening to your YouTube videos in the background…

Idk why ppl care that Levy is working for GM. As a 26 year old who is trying to improve from a mere 1500 I find it inspirational that he sets the bar so high for himself. I'd like to be at 2k one day. Go Levy!

The real question: Can Levy be a GM Chess Player while also being a GM content creator?

I don't care if you *actually become a GM*, but seeing the tournament recaps has been so so fun!! If it's too much then don't push yourself, but I just want to say I love them. Even if they are once every two months! :)

Hey Levy, even if you never become a GM, you're still probably the best chess teacher on Youtube. You actually got me interested in chess, and I learned a lot about it from you. You probably did more for the community than most GMs will ever do. Keep strong.

There’s been a lot of GM’s that almost nobody’s ever heard about or cared about. But The work you’ve done in the chess world has made an impact on a lot of people and now there’s a whole bunch of us that know about you and care.
We appreciate all the work you put in daily to bring us awesome content. Just know there’s a lot of us out here that will support your chess journey that believe in you and really appreciate the instruction, vulnerability, and entertainment you’ve brought this year in pursuit of of GM title.

Everyone’s gonna have something to say? Agreed. Here’s what I have to say: the overwhelming majority love and support you to the very end. Do what you LOVE, Levy! And I promise this community will continue to give you our love and support no matter what

Levy, I was a competitive chess player as a kid and didn't really get back into it until the Pandemic and then I found your videos and I have fallen in love with chess again. Don't listen to the haters. You have made yourself vulnerable which is incredibly brave. You have my utmost respect regardless of whether or not you achieve the GM title

Whether he makes it or not, hitting IM is something 99.5% of players who take the game seriously will not reach. I was happy to hit class A from Class C as a middle aged guy. Master seems pretty out of my reach even if I went back to trying hard. FIDE Master almost certainly impossible for me and IM is just a dream.

Work hard and see where you get.

Dude makes chess fun for so many people. In my opinion that’s more important then any title he can have

Whether you are a GM or not.
I learned chess from you, you are my mentor.
Even if your ratings drop to 400s, I will still respect you and keep learning from you.
Thank you Levi.

A perspective from a different angle: once upon a time I was a pretty good but not amazing Tennis player. I placed in the semifinals in a number of tournaments but never got the win. So in my lessons I started working on adding tools like the one handed undercut backhand and aggressive top spin serves, for better versatility and less predictability. And in the short term it rekt my game. It messed with my muscle memory and decision making. But after enough practice I figured it out and ended up much better than before. I think perhaps you're experiencing something similar.

Levy just spoke his heart out. As a human being, I understand how you feel and I'm happy to see that others comments doesn't really matter at the end of the day.
I have been through your chess videos and you've been amazing.
All the best wishes for your upcoming life!

Being transparent like this, just further proves why you are so successful on youtube and just across any platform. Best chess channel but an even better heart behind the channel, mad love from Miami Lev!!

Most people don't become GMs or at the absolute top of their respective field, so most people here empathize and we are grateful for content that isn't a prodigy who gains 500 points in a year, this stuff just feels so much more real

It's so encouraging listening the words "I know who I am". You have all these projects going on, and still do daily uploads? Jesus man, you work super hard and it shows, keep up the good work.

You’re looking at man who has the work ethic, dedication and humanism to become an incredible doctor, engineer or any other career, and he could’ve made meaningful contributions in any field he chose. But this particular man loves chess. And the thing that makes this chess player so special is that he found a way to not only do what he loves, but to simultaneously be an inspiration and make meaningful contributions to hundreds of thousands of people every single day doing what he loves. Levy, you’re a GM at life and I absolutely believe you will be a GM at chess. One day you will look back at all of this and smile. Thank you bra and godspeed.

Chiming in as one of those guys rooting from afar. I don't even play chess, but I really enjoy watching talented players play the game and explain their thought processes, and you're the best at doing that in an entertaining and engaging way. I hope you reach your goal - even if it takes years - and I'm excited to watch all the highs and lows along that journey.
