Hello everyone. This video is step-by-step guide to becoming a LCSW in the state of NC. For those of you interested in the LCSW license, it's a great license to have as you can work in various settings with it (clinical, community, legal, medical, etc).

When you get an LCSW, you (if you play your cards right) can basically write your own ticket. It's a great spring board to learning in different settings. Keep in mind, I'm speaking as a NC resident and clinician. If you live in another state/country please refer refer to the corresponding licensing board to get their specific requirements to becoming an LCSW.

Thank you for this information was very helpful and informative. I just earned my MSW and now I don’t have a clue of how to find a job to earn my hours.

For NC it has changed you can not take the test until 2 years after you get out of school.

I have my bachelors in psychology and am currently working as a in home therapist (QMHP- in VA). I wanted to go the LPC track but I see the LCSW track is way more broad. The main first step for me would be to get my MSW, and then as you said gain my LCSWA and get all the credentials you listed plus the exam in a 2 year span after my master so that I can apply for the LCSW? Is that correct ?
And if so, you said having a clinical supervisor outside of your job. So if I want to gain my 3000 hours at one job site, I could be gaining supervision from an independent clinician elsewhere ? Could you explain how you did that. I see a ton of people going the easy route and just gaining their supervision from there direct boss.

Not related to the video, but is it difficult finding a job in nc for a social worker? I’m from jersey and I’m going to be getting my msw this year, so that’s even more competition. I’m stuck between staying in jersey or maryland because I like those states and social work jobs aren’t that hard to get and pay well but the downside is these states have a high cost of living. People recommended nc to me but i’m not sure about the job market there.

Hi! What material did you use to pass the LCSW? I have taken my exam twice. About to hit my third. Any suggestions?

Heyy, what kind of jobs would qualify for supervision hours? I got my MSW but dont meet most of the requirements for clinician jobs to gain the hours for supervision. What kind of job titles you recommend for people with MSW but no licensures

What cities in NC would be optimal for obtaining a position as an LCSW? We were looking at areas around Ft Bragg area.

Do you have to get your LCSW to become a school social worker in NC? You might’ve answered that already and I missed it

Hello Tania I just found your channel and I’m grateful for that. I have a few questions if you have a minute. I recently graduated with my masters in social work And I am thinking about Relocating to North Carolina. I just wanted to ask in New York there’s licensed clinical social work but I know in North Carolina it’s LCSWA( I believe). Now I was told for the certification of masters in social work it’s not mandatory but to do clinical work in North Carolina it’s mandatory to be licensed as a clinical social worker. My question is if I only have my Masters in social work degree what jobs would I be qualified for and would it be hard to get a job without taking the license clinical exam? I looked on indeed but a lot of jobs are asking for a licensed clinical social worker so I was unsure of how to look about that.Lastly I’m assuming that if I decide to go for the Certification can I just go straight into taking the LCSWA? If so do you have a website with the direct steps or is that something I could just simply Google?
Thank you
