I keep a bottle of water, napkins, a small fan, chewinggum etc in my bag. Money, keys etc go into the front pockets of my pants.

Some years ago I saw two of these creatures targeting a very elderly woman getting on a bus in Brixton, London.
An elderly and frail woman in a poor working class area and these creatures were trying to take her purse. I noticed them and shouted at them, otherwise the poor old woman would have lost her purse.
Awful behaviour, unforgettable behaviour.

If you are tourist in big europian cities never ever carry your valuable thing (wallet, cellphone) in your backpack!!!! Always in your front pockets or in a smaller bag in front !!!

It is a good thing that tourists are being made aware of these pickpockets. When I am in a large city or other places with a lot of people I always have the strap on my bag over my head so that it cannot be pulled off my shoulder. Also the side with zips is on the inner side next to my body.
