This 24-hour time-laps movie shows the formation of a 3D fibroblast spheroid in a hanging drop. Cells from the NIH3T3 mouse fibroblast cell line were used to initiate this process . The cells accumulate at the bottom of the drop, get in direct contact with each other and re-establish tissue structures. The video was created by Dr. Laurent Barbe at the CSEM in Landquart, Switzerland, using InSphero's GravityPLUS 3D cell culture system.

The advantages of InSphero's GravityPLUS technology to recreate 3D tissue structures are:
- no bioartifical scaffolds needed, the cells produce their own endogenous extracellular matrix
- compatibility with standard manual and robotic liquid handling technology
- highly reproducible in size, less than 10% variation
- one microtissue per well
