In the original black and white TNMT this connection is made very clear.  The origin part of the story shows the car accident, the boy saving the old man and what happens to the waste afterwards.  (The radioactive waste was not called "ooze" until the first movies.)  It was a huge inside joke way back when TNMT was just this little indy comic only comic geeks knew about.  None of us expected it blow up like it did.  (Trust me, no one saw that one coming at all.)  If you can find an original print, you'd see the two stories are, in fact, connected.   If YouTube allowed you to post photos I'd scan the page and show it.  But I'm sure there's digital copies of it somewhere at a not-so-ethical download near you.

What about the fact that Daredevil has the Hand as an enemy and the Turtles have the Foot.

daredevils sensei was called "stick" - the turtles had "splinter".
daredevil fights the evil ninja clan called "the hand" - the turtles battle against the "foot" clan.

Yeah, this has been confirmed since the 80s. Kevin Eastman has mentioned the fact that the Turtles are a parody and connected to Daredevil dozens of times.

Point 1: The Hand
Point 2: The Foot Clan.
Point 3: Stick
Point 4: Splinter

Not a coincidence.

Also in daredevil there is a group called the hand, tmnt has the foot. Anyone see the connection?

*Were Daredevil and the Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles Created in the Same Accident?*

The heroes in a half shell have had some fun adventures, but could their origin be linked to the man without fear? Was a young Matt Murdock really blinded by a canister of ooze, turning him into Daredevil? Watch this week's Comic Misconceptions to find out!

Very cool idea for the Turtles' origin, never heard that one before. Other DD/TMNT connections:
DD fights ninjas called the Hand, TMNT fight the Foot
DD trained by an old man named Stick, TMNT trained by old man/rat named Splinter
The darker storytelling and artwork clearly inspired by Frank Miller, who redefined DD
DD's costume is red, originally TMNT's masks were all red
There are probably more I'm not aware of. Great video man, keep up the good work.

What if Rhino caused the TMNT because in TASM2, Rhino had those canisters in his truck and Spidey was trying to catch them all, What if Matt saved the Blind man from the truck that Rhino was driving and we just didn't see it, and the canister spilled into the sewers and got on the turtles and Splinter.

TMNT was pretty much an off-shoot fanfic of Daredevil. At least, after years of research, that's how I see it. Eastman and Liard even confirmed that they're big fans of Marvel, and loved Miller's stint on DD back in the 70s. There's even a longtime rumor that the boy holding the water bowl containing the turtles, is in fact Matt Murdock himself.

Then you have the Turtles' master, Splinter, who is a nod to The Stick (DD's nina master). And then there's the ninja sect called the Hand. The Foot Clan is a direct nod to them.

I always thought their connections were cool. At least I know what inspired the awesome TMNT franchise.

You should have gone further with this. Their parallel origins are just the tip of the iceberg. Daredevil's mentor is named Stick, the Turtles' mentor is Splinter. Daredevil fought an organized crime group called the Hand. The Turtles fight The Foot. Coincidence?

Both Marvel and TMNT are both known for their many alternate universes, both even having created a thing (Marvel's Infinity series and TMNT's Turttle's Forever) that explained the many alternate universes. It's possible that in one universe the turtles were created by the toxic waste that blinded Daredevil.

It would be awesome to get a comic crossover with Daredevil/TMNT.

The kick I got from the classic TMNT was the Rextab building, where this one family used to live, but 'disappeared' - an allusion of course, to the Fantastic Four.

Hey!! There's another fact about the connection.. In the daredevil movie matts friend had mentioned the rumors about "alligators in the sewers" which means there were some type of reptiles in the sewers.

The truck driver is the true hero with his reckless driving. He ended up creating 6 superheroes that day.

Guy should receive a medal from the city of New York.

The way I understand it, Eastman and Laird took their TMNTs to Marvel [which rejected the idea]. It would, in effect, have been a spin-off series from Daredevil. But Marvel rejected it and so, Eastman and Laird, not wanting to change their basic premise [which now became a colossal in-joke] had to only hint at who the blind man and his rescuer were. The idea is brilliant. It makes me wonder what other unplumbed material could give birth to spin-offs. For instance, whatever did become of that old, blind man...?

I always thought Turtles was a parody of DD, so it makes sense. even though not official I think when the turtles was drawn it was supposed to resemble DD. I mean Foot Clan and the Hand!? haha

If that's the case then that would have to mean that Kingpin works with the Purple Dragons, and that means that *KINGPIN WORKS WITH THE SHREDDER!* *_*gasp_**

Is it just me or does that old guy look like Stan Lee!?! Stan Lee cameo creates daredevil and tmnt!!!!

This theory has been stated multiple times before, and every source I've heard has stated as fact that the Turtles' origins are a parody of and homage to Daredevil.

Also, I'm aware that commenters have stated this already, but it bears repeating: Splinter is meant to parody Daredevil's sensei, the Stick, while the Foot Clan parodies Marvel's ninja clan: the Hand.
