What you describe is just subduction. Plate tectonics has always recognised subduction. In fact you can't have mountain building without subduction back into the mantle. In the case of the Andes, the pacific oceanic plat is subducted under the continental plate and back into the mantle. Of course, some Continental plate material (SiAl) is also consumed into the mantel with it. I've know this about 50 years, it's not news.
