I had a friendship with a pika on top of Jonas Shoulder in Jasper for two years.

He would come right up to me, touch my hand, squeak, then run back a bit. This would go on for a while until he just decided to hang around my leg and hand.

Just hangin'with me...

I'm not sure if it was the thrill, the companionship or the body warmth, but it was cool hanging with my little buddy right up beside me.

Many people think that pika are a type of rodent. They’re not rodents at all. Biologically pika are actually a cousin of the rabbit family. Pika kind of remind of prairie dogs in a way with how they poke their heads above the rocks and make squeaking noises.

Very cute animal. I've seen them in the mountains, they are hard to spot, unless they make a call. Sometimes it looks like they "talk" to each other, when another pika responds to the call.

I like this scientist's obvious fascination with the Pika. I am also fascinated by them. More like this, please...

May I ask the name of this trail? I would love to go on a hike and get to see Pikas in person!

I love pikas. I always wonder how they never became house animals like Guinea pigs.

Good thing they don't zap people :)

Man if these little critters where also pets I'd probably never leave the room and die from cuteness overload.

At first at 0:58 I thought the pika ate the ant, but it just landed on it's nose :D

They're strict herbivores just like rabbits and pikas are special because they harvest grass and make hay to save for winter.

I could've sworn I saw one of these little guys (or gals) running across a street in my city. But, I'm on the east coast (of the U.S.) and they are on the west coast. This was a few years ago. I saw one running across the yard next door to my house, maybe the same one as it was the same year and it wasn't that far from where I saw it originally, and I haven't seen one since. No long ears, so I wasn't confusing a rabbit with one, and no long tail so it wasn't a squirrel. It was about the size of the animal in the video, same body shape, same ears and it was tan in color and ran the same way. But this isn't their habitat (where I live), so I wonder if that was indeed what I saw. I don't know any other animal that looks like that. Maybe one inadvertently hitched a ride on a truck or something or someone had it illegally as a pet? ??? Don't know how one could've gotten here, but I swear that looks like what I saw. A pika was immediately what I thought of when I saw it.
