Each year, NHS health checks aim to prolong and improve quality of life for patients aged 40-74 years. The purpose of the programme is to detect, prevent and reduce risk of heart disease, stroke, diabetes, kidney disease and certain types of dementia. This can be achieved by encouraging people to make life style changes e.g. exercising and maintaining a healthy diet. NHS health checks include three simple steps: Identification, communication and management of risks. If you feel a health check may be beneficial for you, you can visit: your local GP, community pharmacy or even get a home testing kit.
