Asheville has gone very downhill.

I used to love it but now it’s one giant Walmart parking lot. She ain’t lying about the crime and drug problem either lol

I left because asheville wasn't caring about its citizens or street musicians. They have done nothing to help with the sidewalk issues for performers... they seem to only care about hotels and tourists... Not the locals that the tourists come to see.

Also, the house i bought in kansas at 40k would have cost 300k in Buncombe county.

The only thing that I would say about Asheville, while it is a friendly city, it's not a very kid-friendly city. It's good for entrepreneurs, especially alternative lifestyle entrepreneurs. It's a great city for adults to hang out and meet other adults. There's kind of an overall anti-kid vibe, tho.

The recent news about the effects of Hurricane Helene brought me here.
Sorry to see the devastation.

I lived in Asheville for 25 years. You do NOT have your finger on the pulse of this city at all. And, that is why I moved. Kudos to the people who do love it there. By all means, stay there.

I appreciate the positivity here, but allot of this is kinda dancing around things. You’re a real estate agent, so I know you’re earning business. I grew up in the mountains and been all around the south and I have never lived somewhere with as much crime, rude people, and high costs of living than Asheville. The more people we get, the worse it becomes. It’s definitely true that the locals are as kind as they can be, but they’re overwhelmed. It’s a wonderful place to live, but we’re full. Our infrastructure can barely handle the amount of people here, and that’s a well-known fact even amongst our state government. I have been harassed, threatened, and nearly robbed several times in the city over the past few years. Not many people knew about the voluntary Niche survey. This is more for people who are reading the comments than a criticism for you. I really enjoy the channel!

Also, don't move here if you are a blue collar worker, musician, or artist, because you very likely won't even make a living wage. Lawyers, doctors, dentists, and realtors fit in just fine.

I don't like the business of real estate. Between that and the medical industry, it's absolutely the biggest racket in the world.

I'm from Portland and lasted only 4 months living in Asheville. Some of these facts are true, but also watch out for scammers and just jerks in general. Merrimon Avenue is a nightmare and had my first car crash EVER on that AWFUL road. There were also homeless people living in my apartment building's basement -- the landlord knew about this, but didn't do much to fix the problem (and didn't mention this before I moved in). I had high hopes and a cool job, but I ended up hating it there and moved out.

One thing to bring with you, if you're not retired or independently wealthy: a good-paying job, because they are in short supply in Asheville.

I can say without a doubt that Ive see this very same trend that Peter Clemmins is referring to. I’ve been in Asheville in its hey day. It’s unrecognizable to me now. 😢 “Progressive/liberal” doesn’t always mean better. In fact, it usually means the opposite. History definitely repeats itself when a town, city or state says “anything goes”. So sad because I have always loved Asheville so much. The vibe it once had has been replaced with something else. 😔😔

Stayed here for a couple days last month. The place has a very post- apocalyptic feel to it. Like a city completely devoid of God. Left feeling sad.

From the comments it seems that the US has turned worse since I left in 2006. Kinda glad I'm in Europe.

I notice Asheville is suffering many of the same problems other "liberal/progressive" cities have experienced. I.e. San Fran, Portland. Wonder if there's any correlation?

Progressive! Inclusive! Diversity! I’m a native Californian and I just took Asheville off my list.
