An interesting methodology to get some new ways of improvising is by using John Coltrane pentatonic scales, while substituting these scale patterns over 2-5-1 chords. In this video, I'm going to teach you a unique pentatonic scale that John Coltrane improvised with and how to apply it and other pentatonic patterns to jazz chord progressions.

You make by far the best, most informative bass lessons on youtube in my opinion. I struggle on most of your lessons i’ve tried, but that surely means i’m doing something positive for my musical development.

Also the cry me a River lick consists of the notes in this particular scale
Descending from the 9 the on the minor 7 chord and from the #9 of the alt. Dominant chord gives you a hip quote !

Dexter Gordon also uses this scale frequently in his solos ! You can hear him playing these ideas on the first chorus of Cheesecake!

Great lesson again thank you 🙏

This lesson brought back some memories. I had a Bass Instructor years ago, who had me learn pentatonics, where we would take the diatonic modes and remove the 4 and 7. To create 5 note patterns

Doing the 3rds/4ths exercise is great too. Thanks again Joe.

Great lesson. I love the idea of creating unusual pentatonics by removing notes from scales.
