An Introduction to Anglicanism (w/ Fr. Thomas McKenzie)

They look like Catholics, their doctrine seems Protestant... what's the deal with Anglicans? In this episode, Fr. Thomas McKenzie, author of The Anglican Way shares what Anglicanism is all about, where it comes from, and why he sees it as the best way of following Jesus. It's a lively discussion jumping from Reformation history to church structure, but what I love most is that Fr. Thomas kept bringing it back to the centrality of the gospel. Whether you're considering becoming Anglican or just want to learn more, I think you'll really enjoy this interview.

I was so sad to hear about Fr. Thomas and his daughter. I'm glad that you were able to sit down and chat with him before his repose. Rest in peace and may light perpetual shine upon you Fr. Thomas.

Him and his daughter's passing came as such a shock. Prayers for his family.

Thomas McKenzie’s sermons/homilies are very worthwhile. Great speaker.

Father McKenzie expresses himself and explains Anglicanism much better in his book than he does in person.

Man, I must have rewrote a comment on this fella’s ideas a half dozen times....but then I realized I was being uncharitable and the comments section is not the place to say such things....so thanks Austin, you’re great and set a great positive interview precedent each hope you get maybe a high church Anglican or Anglican Ordinariate priest sometime.

As a Lutheran I've always felt a closeness to Anglicans. I'm glad he mentioned our similarity.

Looking forward to this one. I grew up a High-Church Anglican, and started looking for other places to worship after modern secular politics took over the church. Found my Catholic faith because of it and never looked back. Still fun to check in and see what’s happening though.

Keep up the good work!

It’s amazing to me that the Tradition that this Anglican priest claims for himself only comes to him through the Catholic Church. Does he not see the irony and contradiction in this position?

I have attended an Anglican church for part of the ACNA for about 2 years now, it has been an incredible place for me to ask questions and explore the depths of the Christian faith and tradition, and I am excited to hear from Fr. Thomas! Not sure if this will come up, but could you ask him to maybe unpack why Anglicans affirm both the importance of Church tradition and Luther's revised canon of scripture, given how Luther's canon stands at odds with the canon as it has been understood since around 400 AD?

I look forward to watching this. Personally, I was never able to understand why anyone would see Anglicanism as the organically-developed Church of Christ given the precedent for its founding. Godspeed.

I hope you become a Catholic and continue to post because Catholic YouTube needs voices of generosity and kindness like yours. Great work Austin!

A wonderful interview with Fr Mckenzie, his book 'the Anglican way' is just brilliant. As a fellow Anglican priest ordained in Australia and now serving in the Church of England I really appreciated his comments on the global nature of Anglicanism. A great interview and thank you for making a video about the ecclesia Anglicana I had been hoping for a while that you would!

Austin, really loving your page. Listening FREQUENTLY. Would love to a conversation between Catholics and Protestant regarding the reformation from a historical context.

Great video, can you tour an Anglo-Catholic church for one of your videos? It's an amazing experience

Great video Austin! I am curious about the comments about the Anglican church’s recognition of Catholic saints. St. Teresa of Avila was mentioned in the interview, yet she was not canonized until 1622 by the Catholic Church, 88 years after the Anglican Church broke from the authority of the Catholic Church. She did not begin her work countering the Protestant reformation with Catholic reformation until 28 years after the Anglican Church broke away. Additionally, St. Teresa of Avila had very choice words regarding the “fire kindled by these heretics” being a great evil. I am curious how this squares away with the Anglican recognition of her sainthood, as, after reading her work, I’m not convinced she would be too thrilled about this situation. Keep up the great work!

Former Anglican to Catholic St. John Cardinal Newman: "To be deep in Church history is to be Catholic." What a deep thinking theologian.
Be sure to follow Jesus Christ of course! But, do not follow churches of men: Henry VIII, Luther, Wesley, Calvin, etc, as you will be led astray - I mean, wouldn't we want to follow Jesus' truth?! And, happy new year everyone - God bless!

I really respect the Anglo-Catholics who have managed to hang on to their traditional Catholic heritage.

Question: Didn’t the Anglican Church come about by Henry VIII wanting his marriage voided by the Pope and was refused, killed Thomas Beckett, then broke away?
