How to Use a Stethoscope

I show how to use a stethoscope and switch between the diaphragm and bell membranes to change the range of sounds that you're able to detect using this medical instrument. I discuss briefly how to use the stethoscope to listen to the S1 and S2, as well as S3 and S4 cycles of the heart pumping.

At 3:03, I meant to say "Aortic" - I misspoke.

Life saver I actually in medical assistance. When I was practicing on one of my classmates I completely forgot to turn my stethoscope I Was like why I wasn't hearing the heartbeat lol 😅 thank you so much 💗

Both sides are both a bell and a diaphragm. They serve as a bell when you apply no pressure/light pressure. They serve as a diaphragm when you apply firm pressure.

The larger side is for adults and the smaller side is for pediatric patients.

If you wish, you may remove the diaphragm from the smaller/pediatric side, thereby turning it exclusively into a bell.

Very good. Just one extra advice, from a 30 year practice, take off the diaphragm from the bell. Nothing beats the bell directly over bare skin.
