I love traveling alone (I am also a female solo traveler/camper) but I personally never stay overnight without cell service. I know for some this is limiting but it makes me *feel* much safer and also enables me to use location sharing with family.

These are common sense ideas for safety, not paranoid internet conspiracies

Friendly reminder to women that camping predators are not always "scary assaulters." Theyre often "friendly" hikers that build relationships over time.

I really hope you stay safe! My biggest concern is that there could be ZERO incidents (or at least zero reported incidents) of danger at a camp site and all it takes is one single predator to change or end your life. Locking your tent zipper just feels like a no brainer... It would be pretty difficult to quietly get into your tent if you lock the zipper pulls together. Also PLEASE don't tell the internet what safety measure you are or aren't applying. It makes it even easier to target you.

To the people saying there’s no point to clipping the tent zipper, it’s not about keeping someone out. It’s about giving yourself an extra second to wake up and respond to the threat of someone trying to get into your tent.

It probably won’t buy much time but it will at least take the time for the attacker to tug the zipper and recognize it’s not budging and then either tug harder or get a knife.

It’s the same principle as setting up a tripwire alarm around a camp. It doesn’t keep anyone out but it lets you know they are there.

Not locking your tent is like not locking your house's front door. Just cause it makes you more paranoid doesn't mean you shouldn't do it. Safety first, as others have said it only takes one time for your whole life to change.

I’m a fan of the second chair and pair of man shoes. Bare minimum it gives the thought of a second person near by. Also a place for welcomed company to sit.

people intending to do harm aren’t going to warn you in a google review. always better safe than sorry. glad you’ve been ok thus far &hopefully in future as well!

"Better to be a warrior in a garden than a gardener in a war." I don't remember who said this but it's a good quote

Personally, I'd rather be called paranoid than to be called a victim. There's two types of criminals, predatory criminals and opportunistic criminals. Nothing wrong with being cautious

I think being a little extra cautious never hurts. My home has never been broken into but I still lock my doors. My wallet has never been stolen but I don't leave it lying around.
Putting another chair out might be too much, but locking your tent door probably isn't. And carrying a knife or pepper spray.

Oh yeah man I never EVER lock my door before I leave home!!! It just feels too nerve-wracking knowing it’s locked.

“If I feel uncomfortable, I’ll just pack up and leave”. The moment the predator realizes you are a lone female camping about, little to no security measures, you probably don’t have time to simply pack up

The part where you see her drive away from the camera.. all I can think of is that she came back to get it

From one woman to another, I understand not wanting to live in fear, but there’s a fine line between lucky and unlucky, and protecting yourself is not a sign of weakness. Stay safe.

Girl if you're not securing your tent door at night, at least don't inform the whole internet about it 🥲 I hope you stay safe on all your journeys tho 🤞

I'm a rather large and somewhat tall guy.

I lock my stuff up and take precautions. People who want safety should take strides to ensure a minimum amount of security in the very least.

Ok but no one really appreciates how SMART you have to be to be able to do this kind of planning. Not that many people are street smart or tech savvy enough to do this. Props to you girl 😊

In recent years I've been surprised how many homeless and sketchy people I've seen in the woods. There's being paranoid then there's being prepared. Stay safe!
