How much does it cost to Diagnose my Car?

A common question is "How much does it cost to diagnose my vehicle?" Welcome to Mercie J auto care, where compassion and craftsmanship come together. I’m Rick Smith, master certified technician. First of all I want you to understand, I’m trying to get away from the term "diagnose" because at the end of the day, it just depends on what testing needs to be done. I understand many of you would like to know a menu price or cost no matter what to figure this out, but it’s kind of like if you go to the doctor. You’re going to see the doctor then the doctor determines do you need blood test? Do you need x-rays, MRIs? All those have different costs, different labors involved, different equipment involved. So I can’t really answer that question because there’s a lot of difference between a simple inspection of your brakes, as opposed to doing a lot of testing on perhaps controller area network diagnostics. So it can vary and be all over the board. Bottom line is do you trust the auto repair shop to be fair with you? So do a lot of interviewing and make sure you're comfortable with the place you are going.
