As an elementary teacher, I SUPPORT THIS MESSAGE!!! I see the way bratty, selfish children are treated by other children. Allowing your children to be brats and bullies sets them up to be rejected and disliked by the majority of their classmates from an EARLY age.

True. Parents need to start disciplining their children again

My dad is a good example. He's the first one to yell/punish(ground) but he's always the first to compliment/praise and sing your joys for the good things myself and my sisters did. He'd be more enthusiastic than yourself at your own accomplishments😂.

My point being is jordan is right, you need to nip bad things in the bud and praise hard on all the good things kids do. They respond.

“... that's because you're an idiot!” nail on the head - thank you so much for articulating what every parent should already be doing and not doing!

When Jordan turns up the passion, all the ears give listen.

Jordan is afraid of nothing, I wish I could speak him. Always has the best response.

you love your kid, but you don't always LIKE your kid, and there is a HUGE difference

Agree 100%. The less stressed/frustrated you are, the more positive energy, love and attention you can give.

My parents did this to me. Them not caring about my passions hurt more than a spanking would have.

I told my wife the exact same thing. Word for word, syllable by syllable. I even had the exact same tempo and the exact same rhythm and tone. And she called me a narcissist and said she wanted a divorce. The scenario in which I told her this was in a safe and private setting. And I just got finished expressing my beliefs that every time our toddler misbehaved, that she shouldn’t wait for me to do something. She should use it as an opportunity to do something herself. Because I don’t want to be the bad guy 100% of the time. And I feel it’s important for both parents to earn that respect from their child. But what do I know.

I full-on tell my kids flat out when they're acting a fool, being a brat, being annoying, etc. If they cant trust me, their mom who loves them, to tell them the truth so they can learn in a safe environment, then theyre gonna learn the hard way from a cold cruel world who couldnt give a crap about them.

All I ever felt from my mother was barely contained irritation and resentment, no matter how hard I tried to be good and gain her approval. It's soul destroying and you feel like there is just no point to anything. That feeling of futility has pervaded my whole life.

I've been told by countless mothers of kids who WHINE incessantly that it is impossible to PREVENT that behaviour, that it's "inevitable" and my kids (who do NOT/did NOT whine, having long ago learned it is a guaranteed method to ASSURE they do NOT get the object/experience/boon they are ATTEMPTING to secure...), well MY SONS must be "unique". They are HIGHLY intelligent, but I find whining (and other irritating habits....highly UNLIKEABLE...so I was loathe to REWARD my sons for negative behaviours, least i reinforce them.

Two decades or so later, I heard Peterson quoth, "Do not allow your child to develop behaviours which make you DISLIKE them." AND i was retroactively FILLED WITH JOY that my kids DID NOT develop that (and other) highly UNLIKEABLE habit(s).

At 30 & 28, they are incredibly AWESOME men. ❤

JBP spitting facts through his ranting is the most funny and wholesome thing ever. He doesn't care how people are receiving it, he just says what he genuinely feels needs to be said and for that he has my utmost respect. This guy is a treasure.

JP is a national TREASURE of Canada. But they didn't appreciate his INCREDIBLE WISDOM, so we adopted him in the USA. Thanks Jordan... you the man.
