The most influential scientific explanation for biases - dual process theory.

A short, jovial and informal introduction to dual process theory, how it works, and how knowing about it can help one correct his biases. It goes (nearly) without saying that dual process theory is not the only theory of cognition: perhaps there aren't really two distinct cognitive processes that operate in our brains but maybe it's more of a spectrum of processes. In any case, one can hardly discount the influence of dual process theory on the realm of psychology.

I think your idea of seeing political alignment as system 1 vs. system 2 thinkers very useful. That gives me some hope that, in the future, through better training, system 2 thinkers may become more of a majority.

On your second example assuming it is a ball and there is enough room for it in the tube to spin. It would most likely take a right trajectory.

I am autistic and gifted. I am also the single known case of FOXP1 Syndrome with CHC IQ above 105. I am pretty sure the speed and effort qualia is switched in between systems in my brain.

One more additional comment. What happened to your last of us video? I wanted to ask if Joel was justified in saving Ellie if she refused hypothetically.

IIRC the book "Thinking Fast and Slow" talks about this, but I haven't read it yet lol

Still, nice video! I like to hear your thoughts on these subjects

I know this is off-topic. I want to ask you about charity obligations under utilitarianism. Peter Singer argues that not donating charity is the same as letting a child drown. Therefore Utilitarianism requires us to give up on possessions that aren't necessary. What is your opinion on this position?

I think that your hypothesis of fast and slow thinking in politics is a bit too hasty, as political views vary widely and any individual is likely to lean more heavily to system 1 for most beliefs and system 2 for others they perceive as more important. You might be right though, itd be interesting to test but maybe hard to control. Pretty interesting though, and i can already see how i use these systems. Thanks for the knowledge!
