This is for all of you who do not yet know how smooth the Sunshadows in Skyrim can be...

i turned the timescale to 2000 so you see it moving faster

here is the fix...
just add:

[Display]
fSunShadowUpdateTime=0.0025
fSunUpdateThreshold=0.0025
fShadowBiasScale=0.6

i love it these way much more...

i do not deserve any credit other than telling you folks about how to...
i do not know who "invented" this codelines... guess it was someone over at Bethesta... correct me if i'm wrong...

I've always thought the shadows moved in a ridiculous way, nice to know there's a fix for it!

@Taaplari

fShadowBiasScale=0.15 - This variable in SkyrimPrefs.ini determines the degree to which a surface is shadowed, possibly by altering the angle an object needs to be relative to a light source to cast a shadow. In practice, higher values will reduce the amount of shadowing, while lower values will increase the shadowing on various surfaces.

Shadow striping i've found is most effected by fshadowbiasscale. The higher it is, the less the striping, but it causes other problems, like certain objects don't get shadows or they only partially appear when looking askance at the object, like the shadowing underneath porches in town. Too low and you get a horrible striping effect as you move. 0.15 is way too low. Seems 0.2-0.3 largely kills striping while still allowing proper shadows for the objects it effects.

1st... NO, the Skyrim.ini is not the same as the SkyrimPrefs.ini
The Skyrim.INI is NOT in the game setup-folder itself...
the path to them should be something like this:
C:\Documents and Settings\[UserName]\My Documents\My Games\Skyrim\

and there you go... edit the file via editor and add my settings under the DISPLAY section...

hope you'll find it... best regards

hey can you or someone please tell me how to do this in great detail? i do not have a file called skyrim.ini it brings up a file called skyrimprefs... which i assume is the same thing... now i cant find fsunupdate time Anywhere in the prefs to modify it like you say... in fact there is nothing in the prefs file that says anything about the sun... just shadows and stuff... please get back to me.. it will mean alot.

Yes, sure... just add the missing lines into the right ini and it should do the trick...
be sure to keep your last 'working' ini's as a Backup! so nothing can go wrong... good luck...
