Did you catch this in No Country For Old Men? Real life and fiction can occasionally collide in the most bizarre ways. Sheriff Ed Tom Bell provides a narrative in numerous sections of No Country for Old Men. In one of these sections, a hitman who murdered a judge in San Antonio is mentioned. The occurrence that is mentioned in passing but does not occur in the film appears to be inspired by or at least has some resemblance to, a real-life incident that happened in San Antonio in 1979 when a serial murderer assassinated a judge. Charles Harrelson, the father of Woody Harrelson, who plays Carson Wells in this movie, was the person detained and accused of murder.

Yes. Woody Harrelson's dad was indeed a hitman.

This cop drop his guard. Always take the prisoner/detainee into cell while still cuffed behind his back. Always have a secondary deputy with you while escorting a detainee into a cell and lock the bar and have the detainee comes to you backward and then take off his cuff.

Make sure the cell door is locked and then you could sit down facing the detainee while you on the phone.

He was detained because he probably did it. Woody’s pops was a real-life mafia hit man out of Texas.

Fun fact, Charles Harrelson grew up two miles from my house, and most of the Harrelsons still live close to each other here

It wasn't Charles Harrelson who did the hit.
It was another guy from my dad's neighborhood in North Houston.
He was paid half up front and then machine gunned under a bridge in Fort Worth by the mob when he went to collect the other half.
