Unsold old iPhones are turned into new ipods. Genius business strategy

I had no idea they were still selling these...and suddenly I want one too. I definitely still love having a dedicated music device on top of having a smartphone. Not only for daily commutes, but I used to drive 7-8 hours (each way) once or twice a month from grad school to visit home between 2011-2018, and having a dedicated music player with a huge collection of tunes on it was a godsend

I've tried so many ear pods from different companies and honestly, none of them have felt as right as the Apple ones. Those Apple ones always fit just right.

I think eventually we’ll see Apple release a “retro” click wheel iPod. Sort of like how Nintendo did the mini consoles :)

Freaking nostalgia, I remember how exciting it was to unbox the latest iPod every year. And really cool that you still use one on the weekly!

Got my six year-old one of these for Christmas last year. It’s still a great piece of tech and she can basically call or text her grandma and cousins, etc. without having to pay for cell service. More than worth the $200 price tag.

I too use mine daily, I listen to audio books, music, it’s updated with the latest IOS, an excellent companion for people with limited data plans. I beg to differ with those who say they are obsolete.

I’ve been using one of these for about a year and a half as a phone basically(I use messenger to contact people). It’s surprisingly durable for how it looks from my experience.

I remember when these first came out. I watched a million unboxing videos of it knowing I was getting one for Christmas. It was such a crazy new thing back in the day. I had the original and think it’s still hanging around in one of my drawers
Edit: I still have and occasionally use my 80 GB 5th Gen iPod Classic. How the hard drive on that thing hasn’t crapped out yet is beyond me because let’s just say it had a rough life

Really glad to see the sudden interest of dedicated music players.

It's so cool seeing that they still make these. I used a 1st gen IPod Touch all through elementary, middle, and high school (even when everyone else had phones by then), up until the battery finally died. It sucked to see it go, but I was very excited when I got my first phone, bc it was 64gb and I could actually put all my music on there, instead of the measly 8gb I had before. 😅 Now I have a 128gb phone. Technology moves fast!

I spend my whole money on a used iPod touch 3rd gen as a kid, it was already 1, 5 years old at the time. This was my first smart device with Wifi and access to the app store etc. I still think it's one of the most beautiful devices to ever have existed! I cared for this mirror back side like crazy and it still looks superb and neat today! (Which is nuts because this thing got scratches by just looking at it) Now it sort of feels like an ancient gaming console because it still runs an old iOS version and all of those great old games in their old versions and mostly without any ads! While youtube etc dont work anymore.

I love the idea of an ipod touch. I used mine especially to listen to music. If you are out and about and like sitting outside of a concert venue queuing all day, you don't want to drain your phone battery. Having an iPod touch, you would be able to go through the day without draining the battery of my phone. ☺️ Even the thought on the daily, Being able to go through the day and listen to music and such, an iPod touch weighs a lot less than a battery bank and the thought that an iPod Touch would help prevent you running out of battery for an entire day.

Before my iPhone, I was obsessed with my iTouch. With music and downloading any cool game I could download. The good ol’ days of when mobile gaming was cool and interesting

I agree MJR, that red is so striking. Do more of these new “older” tech. Really interesting “gems” that many don’t think about. 👍🏻

I've been using mp3 players basically since they came out decades ago. I'm surprised you didn't notice when buying yours but they do have a 256GB model available. The main reasoning for me choosing the I-pod touch was the combination of available capacity and an external speaker in an mp3 player type of product. I can carry the majority of my audiobook collection with me separate from my phone and not worry about battery life for either device. I'd love to buy another generation if they'd increase capacity to 1TB.

I used to have a dual Android and IOs setup as daily drivers. I used this iPod for IMessage and a lot of iOS stuff while using the Android as a hotspot when I had no wifi. Pretty cool. Splits the battery usage too

I recently picked up a 32 GB Gen 6 IPod Touch for less than 20 bucks. I love it! Even though my IPhone SE2 is comparatively small, the Touch makes it seem huge! It is incredibly easy to carry around, and using it saves wear and tear on my much more expensive phone.
I still use my IPod Touch 4 in the car, because if I leave it on the seat no one is going to break into my car just to get it. In fact, just having it there seems to send out the message “Bro, this guy obviously has NOTHING worth stealing!”
It is amazing tho just how much utility is left in those old, unsupported units. They are still great for listening to music and for watching the movies I buy off of ITunes. (BTW, the Ipod Touch 4 still runs the Web version of YouTube. That’s insane!)
The 6 can run most of the apps on the App Store. The 7 can run them all.
Will I get a IPod Touch 7? Definitely!
Just not until I can get one for less than $50.
