Hey, I’m Sonny! I’m from the US but I’ve been living in Asia for 10 years and started making food and travel videos to document my experiences. I travel to different parts of the world, hunting down and documenting the most unique food each country has to offer.

Although it's easy to sensationalize unconventional meat options, you have to respect the resourcefulness of people that have found alternate food sources when faced with scarcity. Historically, some of our strongest food cultures have developed because of it. Techniques like pickling, fementing and preserving are also products of similar conditions. Certain foods were only available seasonally, so methods of storing and preserving them were necessary for survival. I appreciate Sonny's open-mindedness and respectful approach on these food tours. He may not like everything he tries, but he gives it a chance (within reasonable boundaries like not eating endangered species). You picked a great co-host for this episode. He's a treat.

I really love the exploration of cultural roots Chef Yia added to this series. It makes me want to go back and visit my parents homeland.

I absolutely love this one. I was one who was born in the Ban Vanai Refugee Camp. I bypass all the struggles my parents went through in Laos and their journey. This was a beautiful piece and allow me to peer into my parent's homeland. Laos is my husband's home country, he enjoys this episode so much. Reminds him of his childhood growing up in Laos.

I just stumbled on to these videos a few weeks back, I have enjoyed all that I have seen so far but this one is my favorite by far. The story of Loas is amazing by itself but seeing someone who was born here but left as a child be able to come back to where his roots are and experience what his parents and grandparents lived like is amazing, emotional, and special. As a long time fan of the channel, I have to say that the content gets better and better with every new country added to the mix; But there is a feature that I'd love to see added and which wouldn't take much time to implement, I'm referring to proper Subtitles and not the auto-generated ones. I'm positive that there are countless foreign viewers that will appreciate this little feature quite a bit.

Great video ! Yia’s quote “coming to a home I’ve never been to” hits differently. His story is so similar to so many. Props to the O.G Hmong folks who came to the U.S with no money and no grasp of the English language and not only survive but thrived. In one generation there’s hmong drs, lawyers, congresswomen, mayors, successful entrepreneurs. It is sad to see some of the next generation losing not just the culture but the language. I hope videos like this will inspire young hmong people to learn about their history, culture and language. As far as food goes, southeast Asian cuisine in my opinion is the best bar none. Hmong, Laos, Vietnamese, Thai and Cambodian food is unmatched. Keep the awesome content coming !
