LEADERSHIP LAB: The Art of Public Speaking

Do you wish your public speaking skills were stronger? Do you worry about losing your audience's attention when presenting your research? Scholars tend to emphasize content over delivery, when in fact the manner in which you deliver your presentation is just as important as the material being presented. This workshop was led by a trained actor who discussed some of the basic yet overlooked principles of speaking in front of an audience, why an engaging presentation is so important for communicating your research, and some simple techniques that can help remedy bad public speaking habits. This workshop was interactive and required those who registered to offer a short two minute presentation on a pre-circulated topic.

This was good, the journey of knowledge and learning is the point, not the end.

Watching US university lectures is so rewarding but also galling. Education in my European country doesn't compare.

None of them had a real fear of public speaking.

The most important thing is still 7%. If you have everything else and 7% is useless information, you speech is entertained, but it's useless.

"The Art of Public Speaking" begins with eight tedious minutes of introduction.

The content here is great... his delivery could use work imo

Not much content for an hour-long lecture. Know your habits, because they come out when you’re nervous? Only 7 % of a presentation is the actual contents? Sure, your presentation style is fine, but I came for the 7 %.

My first impression just as he opened his mouth was absolute lack of even an iota of charisma as a public speaker. He shut me down to his blithering. Unfortunately, he is doing this at a prestigious, storied academic institution like University of Chicago.

If only 7% of what you said was the words then why would anyone read a transcript of a speech, it would be unintelligible

Content is pretty good...but that guy over acts! He talks like he is monologuing in a play - with ego.

Also, he wasn't truly present...not listening to the comments from the group, but too busy thinking about what he wants to say next.

Acknowledgement of comments was consistently "Yeah". Also didn't explore the comments given by the group (confirmatory questions) which would demonstrate genuine interest.

Narssasitc chubby bpi who could do so he teaches.

Now he teaches people giant nothing burgers by bloviating about details that only and actor who never applied them, would do.

Every actor I've me with the same story has the same pointless class they've made up and pretend has a function. 😂🤣

I AM a 25 year old on the cusp of 26 and this video absolutely disgusted me. I personally intend on increasing Value upon Leadership in this VERY sad, soft nation today.
