Had plenty of both types of cars. V8s and turbos. Both special and fun in their own way. I'm actually a JDM fan so in general I'm all over turbos but I must say there's something extra unique and special about sitting in a v8. Most especially when it's cammed. It gives this sense of power that nothing else does. The sound, the car shaking on idle from that big v8 motor with that deep bass rumble. Nothing else like it. Also the torque pull from low of rpms is quite satisfying.

Nice comparo Ross, each develops the power in its own way. The barra just sounds menacing, while the burble of the cammed V8 sounds mean. Thanks for bringing it to us!

Mad respect for our neighbouring country and there well built cars. The battle of the the aussie beasts will forever be casted in stone. Been a proud owner of both Fords and Holdens over the years. My final words to 2 of the greatest vehicles ever produced "THE DUST WILL NEVER SETTLE"

Absolutely love both cars, they’ll always be equal to each other in my opinion. 👍🏻

They're both great cars in their own rights, but nothing beats the sound of a V8... Up the LS!

At 5:22 to 5:33 is so true ! Loving 6450 in Australia and grateful to drive a VE ssv gen 1 manual Ute . These machines always put on a smile and keeps me sane after doing the daily grind . Too much bro

Was always a Ford guy, hated on Holden for so long. After selling my BF xr6t 2 years ago I decided to look into a commodore and settled on a fully optioned 04 VY Series II Ls1 Manual HBD with just 64.000kms, and ill tell you what ill never look back. Its slower yes ( by a fair bit ) but as for driving experience the SS is so much more enjoyable. Done the usual Higgins Heads and large Crow cam + supporting mods and its makes a healthy 300+rwkw. Cosmo purple with colour matched leather, just hit the 80.000kms. Best car I've ever owned but financially not the smartest car to be driving to work 5 days a week. 😂 Both brands do their thing in their own way, I will always now respect both.

I'm a little biased myself owning an F6, but I love the VE SS. That noise is just brilliant. Brother owns one and I'd rather ride in it than mine...

I wasnt a massive fan of the ve when i was younger. My parents had a 60th anniversary commodore and i hated it. But my opinion changed when i found my series 2 ss wagon, friggin love that thing. Still relatively stock atm kind of reminds me of my first car but way more grunt

Two really nice cars, Ross. Thought the turbo’s 0-100 might have been quicker than the SS but not much in it. Both cars would be really nice to own. Both sounded really good. Another great review. Thanks Ross.

Great review for two Aussie icons and modified, but traction does come down to tyres as well, you have to run good tyres on the Barra, only way to get them to hook up, but I know you know that

BarraT goes hand in hand with the ZF6Speed..

The more the power the harder it is to gain traction.. My old G6ET would spin through almost 3 gears before having any kind of grip, but as said in the video they are roll monsters..

The winner is who can spend the most on it . xr6 turbos are dirt cheap so they win value factor

I've always loved the Barra motors, and they can make stupid power quite easily, but there's just no beating the sound of a V8, especially a cammed V8. And for a street car sound is important when most of the time you're sitting in traffic or at the lights or just cruising along. And that rumble without even needing to get on the loud peddle is unmatched.

Regardless, you just can't beat that sound @ 2:24.... so good.

As a Ford enthusiast I respect the Holdens though I’ve never owned one.

Still beautiful cars

This is a good comparison of a motor making power as compared to the turbo making power.sure a turbo motor will make more peak power but in 90% of situations that leaves you playing catch up to the car with proper bottom end grunt even if its got less power overall.

Its hard to beat the sound of a cammed v8, good content mate. 🤙👌🙂
