Dust Deputy 2.5 - Assembly and Air Flow Test!

Today we are going to have a dust cyclone shootout between the brand new Dust Deputy 2.5 and the original Dust Deputy. I use the shop vac and dust deputy combo in my shop all the time. It works great. Oneida came out with a new dust separator called the Dust Deputy 2.5 and they sent me one to try out. I show you how to assemble the deluxe kit complete with a 10 gallon steel drum. Then, I perform an air flow test on the Dust Deputy 2.5 and the original Dust deputy.

Thank you Jake. You have given us another great demonstration. I will be ordering a new one through your Amazon link. For those of us that are already using an older Dust Deputy you are able to order just the DD 2.5 DIY without the dust bin or attachments. Just a matter of swapping them out.

thanks again Jake! jim

Thanks for this. I was looking for tests comparing the two to see if it's worth the upgrade to the 2.5. I'm definitely ordering one.

Another great instructional video Jake! I can see how these Oneida’s can be very nice for a shop! 💪🏼💙

Thanks for the demonstration. It would have been nice to see the flow rate without the Deputy Duster since you already had the tester and the camera. I just got one ordered.

Wow, seems like a bigger difference than I thought there would be. Maybe it's time to upgrade my original dust deputy. Thanks for posting, very helpful!

Good review. Are you planning a video with it in use to show how much it will actually collect?

Hi Jake. Just watched this video. I recently bought the 2.5 but not the full kit (just the cyclone). I bought a larger drum-style barrel and made a custom lid with center hole and mounted the cyclone to the lid. Wanted more capacity since I have 4 tools connected via central-vac pipe. Clamped the lid to the barrel and fired up the vacuum (6.5 HP Shop Vac). Big loss in suction and virtually all the dust went straight in the vacuum. Yes I made sure the hoses were connected accordingly. Any suggestions?

Your fingers looked like they were covering the air flow meter on the first test, but were clear of the air flow meter on the 2.5 test. Could that explain some of the difference in CFM?

Hopefully one day, I will have a shop worthy of one of these ☺😁🥰

Wow. Big one has 28% more CFM??? That is a HUGE difference. Also it would been great to have precise measure of dust separation like I described in previous comment in other video...
And now the question is. Did you compare these two with new low pro???
Thanks, Tomas

Finally getting dust collection into my shop. I already have a Rockler Dust Right 650 wall mount. Do you have any thoughts about running the Dust Deputy 2.5 with something like that? Or stick with the Shop Vac scenario?

Hey Jake I have a very small shop. I want to have dust collection for my wood lathe and a 12" flex hose for general, move around vacuuming of work desks and the shop floor. The distance from where my lath is to the vac location is about 14' of PVC pipe. In your opinion, can I get away with the smaller Dust Deputy and what HP vacuum do you recommend? Thanks!

Do you notice suction loss with these? I tried the dust topper and noticed that I lost a lot of suction?

Well, you just cost me $79.00 😆. I'm getting into wood working so I have been getting not only tools but dust collection equipment for my small shop. I started with the Dustopper which I've had no problems with. But all the videos say the Dust Deputy is the best, so last month I ordered it, been pretty happy with it, except I think my Ridgid shop vac that flows 190 CFM through a 2.5 inch hose is a little much for it. It seemed to pass planer chips to the vacuum and the dustopper just passed fine dust. So, I thought ok maybe this 2.5 one will be worth a shot. I suppose I will see next week. Looking forward to it.

Is the original one you tested the first generation original or the improved one with the neutral vein?
