Fix a New Gas Can in 4 Simple Steps.

Don't throw away your gas can! I'll show you how to fix a NEW EPA gas can so it actually works. We will be working on a yellow diesel can but the process is identical for the red gas can. These cans are made by Midwest Can but the nozzle design can be found across many other brands as well. These newly designed fuel cans have environmental and safety modification that make them almost useless and also make spillage a lot more common which is neither safe or good for the environment. If I can do it so can you. Let's get started.

Always amazes me that the solution to tiny amounts of fuel being spilled and evaporating from open/broken vents on a small percentage of cans was to make sure everyone spilled ten times as much fuel every time they use every single can. Gotta love stupid regulations.

The absolute worst experience, even more than folding a fitted sheet, is using these cans. Thank you for making the world a better place.

I've had nothing but trouble with these modern horrible fuel cans. Thank you so much for publishing this fix.

I have spilled more gas with this design than I ever did with the old ones.

Thank you so much! This granny with arthritic hands and a diesel truck and a mower to fill, have struggled mightily with those stupidly designed cans. I am fixing those suckers today! God bless!

As a retired engineer, I did this to my can 10 years ago. Thanks for sharing your knowledge with the rest of the community.

I never spilled gasoline until these non-spill cans were mandated by Congress.

I feel so satisfied knowing that it was a felony for me to watch this video from California.

That's a beautiful pour. As it should be. I've hated my gas cans for years. Thank you!

Back in early 2000's, we were fortunate enough to have lived next door to a guy who was Stihl's national channel manager. Talk about a great gig! Anyway, he was German (duh) and had access to German-made fuel cans with a really unique, simple, and nearly unspillable nozzle that was so much easier to use than anything I've seen made here (or China). He gave me 10 and 20 liter containers which I still use. Using them really makes you hate these junk containers.

I love the quote, "designed by people who don't use gas cans." So true. These have frustrated me for years. I was just buying after market nozzles. Now I'll do these mods. Thanks.

Last time I was poking around in my thirty year old shed, I saw three old gas cans in there. Guess I should appreciate them.

Tip: When you insert the breather, put a little "Seal-All" glue all the around the inserted part. Seal-all is fuel resistant and will help seal the vent as well as act somewhat as a lube when inserting it.

I, very reluctantly, used mine yesterday and use ALL of the appropriate cuss words. Thanks to you I will modify mine TODAY!

I just went on Amazon and bought some nozzles and vent caps, changed 10 cans over, and have never looked back. All for less than 15 bucks

Don't remove the spring completely. Just shorten it so that it doesn't require so much force. That way it will still shut off the flow quickly when needed. Same with the filter screen. Just poke a hole in the bottom. Fuel goes in quick but still gets a bit of filtering coming out. Good video!
