1999 Compaq Proliant 3000, First Boot & SCSI Raid Setup

I bought this machine untested with no warrenty for only 25 euro. So I gonna restore it to full working order! We gonna see if it works (yes it did) then we gonna configure the SCSI Raid on the Compaq Smart Array 2DH. And we Install Windows 2000 Advanced Server.

Nice :) I used to love using and running these guys back in the day and still have a few. I agree on the experience. If you like the experience.. try some of the Fujitsu systems. Really nice similar idea with the embedded windows and config then sets up Windows Server or ESX/ESXi, or Linux .. etc from within windows embedded with all the utilities to configure all your various crimes. Great fun! :)

You touched my heart. Thank you. I administered my own two such models over 20 years ago. They always "sang" so nicely!

Awesome stuff Victor! I'm an HPC sysadmin, working with servers all the time and I really enjoy this retro-data-center contents!

I threw mine away about five years ago.
Presumably the guys at the recycling place did well out of it.
We used it as a heater in one place where we lived :-)

The door, when you find it, will no doubt cost more than the system lol.

It´s funny that you say SCUSI :) Here in Germany, we say SCASI to SCSI

I remember we got one of these at my high school and it was a huge deal. So cool. Thanks for the retro video.

We had several of these beasts at work back in the day running NT4 and Windows 2000 Server. Compared to modern rack mounted machines these are huge.

Aaaaah, happy memories..I miss those days..I did a lot of support on systems like these :-) You better protect your ears if you're working for a long time in the same room as were the server is runnning..these systems produce much noice

Victor, I actually installed these brand new in 1999 they are really nice machines. The 264gb Nick's that are in the system are perfect and they are fully supported. We even had multi-port nics in some of these servers. 4 total of 4 ports in each server or more. We used these for DB, web, file servers. These are great machines.

If you need any help please let me know.

Great video. My first sysadmin job, I managed a Compaq Proliant 6000 server running NT 4, that was a PDC, File Server, Exchange Server, and Proxy. It had Dual Pentium Pro CPUs, less than a Gig of RAM.

Great video Bart. Compaq Proliant was the reason why Hp wanted the Compaq company. I’m certified Compaq Proliant tech from early 1994... Ps! Banyan Vines was a popular Server OS back in the 90’.. 😁

Another incredible video, can't wait for the follow up! Ah those times when a capable OS would just use 60MB ram...

Awesome video! I have a ProLiant 3000 and two 5500 I tinker around with occasionally. I run the 3000 with Debian 10 as my Pihole DNS resolver during the colder months, haha!
