Talking To Elephants 🐘 Your Questions Answered!

We asked you to send in questions for a Q&A with Adine and Tigere and over the next few weeks we will share some of the answers. In this segment, find out how our team communicate with the elephants and how the carers fit into the hierarchy of the herd.

Wow! Beautifully explained. The elephants are very smart as well, so I’m sure they can read your tone and body language. I always wonder what we smell like to them, particularly since so many humans are carnivores. Yeah, I have a strange brain.

Speaking of unspoken communication, I will always remember when Adine said she and Tokwe understand each other. I believe that is so true. Love the relationship between elephants and carers. ❤️❤️❤️🇨🇦

What a wonderful idea to have the questions and answers! I very much appreciate Tigere's thoughtful responses. It was very well explained about the structure, and interrelationships developing over time. It is a unique arrangement (in rescue / scantuary) as far as I can tell, with very personal relationships developing over years. It illustrates too why it would be potentially disruptive or at least distracting to have short term volunteers coming and going. I love the positivity Tigere possesses, mentions, and shows by example all of the time. Adine's obvious fondness for the Elephants and proud happiness that they know their names illustrates a large part of what makes HERD so successful and special. Great Video!

Much love! I absolutely love this channel. I've learned so much. Also I will add I was really never interested or intrigued on elephants until one day one of their videos came up on my homepage of YouTube. It was a video on when they got Fenya.
I've watched them every since. I am currently in remission for breast cancer and while I was in treatment I would watch their old videos to learn about each elephant.
Much love and huge respect for Adine and all of the Herd crew for their patience to teach all of us from all over the world.
One day I will have enough money to come meet them. But for now I will continue to watch the channel. ❤

It's nice to know that the elephants would come to the rescue of the Adine/ Carers in case of an emergency. I agree with Tigere. They know you're not one of them, but they have come to view you as human members of their family. They look forward to the daily routine and to the organization this provides them. They like this routine. It is calming. I believe this is why they all are living their best life!

I have noticed, Aldine, that you and the careers announce your presence to the elephants. It seems to reassure the elephants and shows respect to them. Respect for each other is really important with huge elephants. They do know their individual names and respond so well. Love to watch these videos.
