A commonly held belief is that human behavior is the result of rational decision making based on available information. A closer look into the science of behavior reveals the powerful role our emotions play in our decision making process. In this animated video, we look at the behavior change process using Jonathan Haidt’s analogy of an elephant, a rider, and a path.

Get rid of the music or 1/4 the volume.

Would love to more about how to motivate the elephant and what 'tapping into the emotion' actually looks like?

Would this example fall under the category of Theory of Planned Behavior?

I enjoyed this short animation immensely. I can see how it works for day-to-day changes (1st order Change). I'm not sure that it applies when a major shift in the frame of reference is needed (2nd order change).

I mentioned about fun being part of evaluating to a psychiatrist before as I was trying to help that psychiatrist improve, behaviors improve and so on for our best behaving individuals of all time including our best behaving little children and such before and I said it's much better to evaluate and improve behaviors and so on with fun being part of the equation how I mean so yes it's certainly some healthy ways to improve behaviors is with fun in the equation. Lights on the stairs rather than sound could be awesome to some individuals think and music rather than alot of keys being hit and it not sound nice or such how some people mean. I think there's ideas not here in this post that can be amazing so nice work on trying to help improve behaviors how you do in some ways how I mean.

Do not ever ride an elephant! By doing so, you are directly contributing to their suffering and exploitation. It is cruel and inhumane to support such practices. Show some compassion and respect for these magnificent creatures 😥

Guiding others & being community-conscious is really useful. But what do you do about the 20% of people who are so self-absorbed or in denial that they never even think of their own future, let alone the environment of others, and can't be bothered to recycle even if the waste packaging they've caused by buying it is collected from their own front door?
