LYRICS:

And who are you, the proud lord said,
that I must bow so low?
Only a cat of a different coat,
that's all the truth I know.
In a coat of gold or a coat of red,
a lion still has claws,
And mine are long and sharp, my lord,
as long and sharp as yours.

And so he spoke, and so he spoke,
that Lord of Castamere,
But now the rains weep o'er his hall,
with no one there to hear.
Yes now the rains weep o'er his hall,
and not a soul to hear.

My brother got married two weeks ago and they did the grand march to "Rains." It was fun how you could tell who watches "GoT" based on who looked confused/awkward and who looked amused/concerned.

So imagine this, Tyrion opens the door, crossbow in hand, and there is Tywin shitting on the toilet, with another crossbow loaded and pointed at the door.

If anyone is wondering why this song strikes fear in the hearts of Westerosis, here's a brief summary:

The Reyne-Tarbeck rebellion happened decades before the events of Game of Thrones. Tywin's father, Tytos was still the head of House Lannister. In comparison to his son, Tytos is a weak minded man who preferred being favored than being feared. He allowed the Reynes and Tarbecks (Banner men to the Lannisters) to borrow money from the Lannister and not demanding a payback. When it was Tywin's turn to become head of the Lannister family, he decided to make the Reyne and Tarbeck pay their debts. Not wanting to pay, the two families decided to rebel against their Liege Lord. Tywin wanted the lesser families to fear the Lannisters once again so he decided to wipe out both families. During the final battle, Tywin pushed the Reynes back to Castemere, which is their ancestral home. The Reynes knew that they had the advantage if they stayed within their castle, they had enough food to outlast the Lannister in a siege. Tywin, who was a tactical genius decided to re-route the river next to the castle and flood the entire castle (and now it rain weep over this hall). Every exit has been covered by the Lannister troops, there was virtually no exit, resulting in drowning everyone in that castle. This show of strength and no mercy is why other houses fears the Lannister and that is why this song strikes fear with anyone who messes with that family.

I apologize for the shortness of this summary. THere are definitely more details in the Reyne-Tarbeck rebellion. Youtube has a shit ton of videos on it. Im sure I left out some details and I am sorry for that. I am summarizing this from memory.

When winter comes for war,
You shall hear no Lions roar.
When winter forces you to yield,
No Stags shall graze upon the field.
When winter creeps upon you from the shadows,
No Roses shall bloom from the meadows.
When winter wreaks havoc on the land,
You can bet there'll be no Snakes in the sand.
When winter brings to life all it finds grim,
The Krakens will freeze where they swim.
When winter sets and the land begins to shiver,
The Flayed Man will start to rot and wither.
When winter fights to the last sliver,
No more Trouts shall swim in the river.
When winter ravages and all despair,
No Falcons shall fly high in the air.
When winter shows you what happens when snow falls,
Not even Dragons Breath shall warm you in your halls.
When winter comes with all it's might,
Only the Wolves shall howl in the night!

Every time it feels like Tywin Lannister is singing lullaby to baby jaimie, Tyrion and Cersei.

We can say what we want about the Lannisters but they were really iconic.

Tywin to a king unable to hold his own reigns.
Tyrion to a family that always looked down on him.
Cersei to a cruel system that would force her marriage and deny her the real love she desires.
Jaime to a entire society that shuns him as kingslayer, sister-lover, and now traitor as he travels north.

Getting a ballad composed about putting down a rebellion that becomes really popular during your lifetime is gigachad stuff

You like Tywin and the Lannisters? Their early work was a little too new wave for my taste, but when Swords came out in 83, I think they really came into their own, commercially and artistically. The whole album has such a clear crisp sound and a new sheen of consummate professionalism that really gives the songs a big boost. He's often been compared to the Mad King, but I think Tywin has a far more bitter cynical sense of humor. In 87, Tywin released this, Roar, their most accomplished album. I think their undisputed masterpiece is The Rains of Castamere, a song so catchy, most people probably don't listen to the lyrics, but they should, because it's not just about the pleasures of genocide and the importance of legacy, it's also a personal statement about the family itself. HEY ROBB!

The Rains of Castemere history is actually the most tragic song. It says about the clash between House Reynes and House Lannister. The Red Lion vs the Golden Lion. Tywin Lannister trapped the Reynes and everyone in their castle, they hid underground and Tywin flooded the castle and the Lannister army heard screams of everyone and after some hours there was piercing silence. Then he burnt the castle down. Hence the lyrics "And now the rains (Reynes) weep o'er his hall, with no one there to hear"

What a lovely song with great orchestral music, I’m sure this has no dark implications to a particular scene in a show.
