Well, that was super weird… who was this video for?? B&J’s subscribers? eBay customers that aren’t into watches? Watch buyers hesitant to use eBay? Who was the anonymous-back-of-head kind of interviewing Adrian? Probably just me, but it all just felt really confused / out of context to B&J’s content… 🤔

There’s something about this video on authenticity that feels so inauthentic 😆

This was a really weird way of putting up an ad for eBay rather than a normal video

Damn I just watched a four minute eBay advert. Am I on the right channel?!

Oh dear Adrian, videos like these will have you thrown out of the 'circle of trust' 😉🤭😂

Adrian what are you doing bro, I'm sure it paid well but come on man. The problem from my experience is not authentication it's about buyer protection above and beyond indisputable evidence. As someone that sold a watch on ebay had a buyer scratch the f out of it then claim against me I would never go through that experience again. And would certainly recommend anyone in the UK use a reputable seller like Kibble Watches that charge the same as ebay but take care of everything for you

Next, eBay needs to improve their prevention of fraudulent listings. Bought a modern AirKing over the summer on eBay listed with the Authenticity Guarantee, but the watch never came and the listing was discovered to be fraudulent. eBay was good enough to issue a full refund, which I completely appreciate, but that doesn't resolve my disappointment of missing out on my first Rolex. Since, it's been hard to consider eBay as a legitimate marketplace for luxury watches.

Adrian: "If something is popular, I'm pushed away from it"
Also Adrian: "My favorite watches are Omega, Tudor and Rolex"

Props for a nicely shot ad though I guess

So.. You buy a Rolex from an AD. Own it for a decade or so. Decide to sell it and send it to Ebay for verification. The 'expert' decides it is fake and then it gets lost in the post sending it back to you..

I remember a time not too long ago when the AD couldn't give an explorer II away.

I don’t mean to alarm you but there is someone lurking in your bushes.

There is a lot of positive and negative conversations regarding eBay. I think its a great service if your a private seller, selling a watch on eBay. Not sure the grey market dealers will like it because it cuts the middle man out of the deal!

In regards to their "authenticity guarantee" that's great for the buyer but there's little to protect the seller. I listed a Laco not long ago and sold it here in the U.S. The piece was in great shape as I hadn't worn it but a handful of times, it just wasn't my style. All the specs and details were explained in the listing. After about two weeks the buyer claimed the watch wasn't holding a charge. I believe it was a 42 hour power reserve. The buyer filed a claim after I refused to issue a refund and Ebay sided with the buyer. After I received the watch back, I tested it and not only did it hold up to the 42 hours but it probably was running at about 45 hours of power reserve. My guess is the buyer probably didn't know how to utilize the automatic features (all the paperwork and over a year left on the warranty were included) or just didn't like it so he claimed the item was defective so he could get his money back. BOGUS.... Will never sell anything on Ebay again. There was ZERO effort to protect the seller in my case.

Your wrist would suit the much cooler 16570 better, and it would be a touching reunion to boot.

Im a big fan of your work and style so please don’t take this the wrong way. I think this video would have been more genuine if it was just you talking about this casually. I’m going to venture and say eBay wanted to hire videographers for this. It just comes off as an ad and I think a genuine video from you would go a lot farther than this manufactured “influencer style” video.

Adrian’s engagement with the comment section of this video is off the charts. Probably a clause in the eBay Next video: “How I Got a Rolex at Less-Than-Retail” 😙

I'm surprised that you bought this on eBay and weren't able to get one at the AD. Not that there is anything wrong with that, but still, you must have some connections?

Well this was a weird ad. Couldn't tell if it was B&J or a Hodinkee video with all the over stylised videography. Ben Clymer would be proud.
