Everything you must eat in Istanbul as a tourist
First start your day with simit, a local staple breakfast that’s a cross between a bagel and pretzel and coated in molasses & crispy sesame seeds. You can buy this while lining up to enter Hagia Sofia & the blue dome 11/10 crispy on the outside, soft and chewy inside
Then stop by a rooftop restaurant for seafood, check out that view of the blue dome right behind me! This grilled sea bream was perfectly juicy and tender They even let us feed the seagulls on the rooftop! 10/10
Then after a walk through the Topkapi Palace museum
of course you’ve got to try all the Turkish baklavas & pastries. They are all variations of pistachios and walnuts wrapped in flaky filo pastry and coated with syrup. 8/10 they are a bit sweet & dense. But you must enjoy this with a Turkish tea, locals told me they have up to 20 glasses a day!
For dinner, find a restaurant with a sunset view
Try their local version of pizza called “pide” 8/10
Lamb is a must try in turkey, like this slow roasted lamb shoulder paired with tangy salty yogurt, 9/10 “Trakya kivircik” melt off the bone
The best dish was this octopus, it was so soft and perfectly caramelised on the outside with sweet yet tart pomegranate sauce. 15/10
