WTVJ At 70: On This Humble Plot...

Показать описание
...WTVJ Built Its Thousand-Foot Tower
It didn't look like much in May 1953, but on this sparsely wooded site in Hallandale Beach WTVJ's one thousand foot broadcast tower would soon rise.
The tower replaced WTVJ's antenna on the top of the Everglades Hotel in downtown Miami, and was advertised as dwarfing Miami's tallest buildings "3 to 1." The competition: the Dade County Courthouse at 336 feet; the Miami News Building, now known as Freedom Tower, at 254; and the aforementioned Everglades Hotel at 306 feet. Do the math...That's 896 feet.
The tower also dramatically increased the reach of the station's signal, widening WTVJ's viewership to include Broward County and the Bahamas.
