Recovered VHS Gems (from the archives) Episode 54: Mr. Magoo, Melody Time, Walt Disney Masterpiece Collection, and The Love Bug Collection Trailers
This series chronicles my continuing efforts to digitally archive my entire VHS collection and I will be posting any cool or odd things I find.
In this episode we are looking at four trailers from the 1998 Clamshell VHS release of the 1976 Disney movie “GUS,” from the “Don Knotts” collection. The first trailer is for the 1997 “Mr. Magoo” feature film, based on the cartoon of the same name, and starring Leslie Nielsen, Kelly Lynch and Malcolm McDowell. Next is a trailer for the Disney Animated Classic “Melody Time” (1948), which features short animated subjects set to music from the time period, including Roy Rogers and The Andrews Sisters. Followed after that is a trailer for the “Walt Disney Masterpiece Collection” which was a home video sub-label for Walt Disney/Buena Vista Home Video. This sub-label was for the purposes of re-releasing older content to old and newer audiences on VHS. Among the titles featured are “Dumbo” (1941), “Robin Hood” (1973), Mary Poppins (1964), “Pete's Dragon” (1977), “Alice In Wonderland” (1951), and “The Sword In The Stone” (1963). And the final trailer features “The Love Bug Collection,” a collection of four films on VHS that collect the complete cinematic adventures of “Herbie.” Presented in this 4-film collection are “The Love Bug” (1969), “Herbie Rides Again” (1974), “Herbie Goes To Monte Carlo” (1977), and “Herbie Goes Bananas” (1980). I present them here for archiving, educational, and entertainment purposes.
NOTE: I do not own this footage and it belongs to its respective copyright holder(s). I have edited it and enhanced the video and audio to clean up some of the original defects when possible. With the exception of opening and closing title cards, the program is presented as it originally appeared on VHS home video (unless otherwise indicated) for presentation, educational, research, and archiving purposes. These recordings come from my personal collection.
