Baalbek was built by the Phoenicians which were at their height between 1100 - 200 BC. The region of modern day Lebanon wasn't occupied by Romans until 64 BC so there is no reason to see Roman units within Baalbek.

The city was Greek before the Romans. They didn't usually change too much since they used to build in a similar way. The same thing happens in Empurias, there is little Roman stone because nothing that the Greeks built was destroyed.

If you've been to Osaka castle, the stones at the entrance gate are over 120 tons and were put there in the 1600s at the direction of a man we still know not only his name but his family history, painting, and deeds.

He may not be a big believer in ancient technology, but the evidence is everywhere that ancient technology did exist. They have not found the tools and they don't know the means but that does not mean it didn't happen.

Those american experts are always so good at telling the story, how it's misterious, noone knows, ... And then you enter with a local guide and so much is explained.
I loved my travels to Lebanon. So rich in history. Way back of the roman times. So much information was poured into us It was gard to remember it all. But the fusion different eras and civilisations created in this area is breathtaking.

Wow a real expert "not a big believer in ancient technology." The only foot I see isn't Roman either.

I find it interesting that those construction techniques would be very difficult or altogether nearly impossible for us to replicate today.

The Romans are just Etruscans but with big buildings to make watching humans fight animals even more fun.
