“I have mixed feelings” is pretty good for a Great Depression recipe

My grandmother used to make this for my baby brother for his birthday. She would lightly fold in the egg whites so there were little clumps of it in the pudding. We made a game of trying to sink the little islands. What a great memory! Lil bro and I are in our 60s now. I think I'll surprise him with a batch just for fun! (Edited to correct typo.)

Update: Surprising him at Easter dinner! I'll let y'all know!
Update 2: I wish I could post a pic of the huge grin on his face! He was absolutely gobsmacked that I remembered, and even more so when I told him about the pack of random internet strangers asking for an update. He doesn't use a computer so I had to show him all of your sweet comments from my laptop. I served it with fresh whipped cream and raspberries, just for fun. A memorable Easter dinner! Love to you all! Oh, one final note: if you want to try this, you need to make the "fluffy tapioca cream" on the back of the box. Literally Gramma's exact recipe.

I knew it was going to taste strange. It was marinated in accordion music. 🪗😅😅

You made the "it's good" face and the "it's bad" face back to back in less than a second! I've never been so confused for such a short amount of time.

My grandmother always made this for me when I spent time with grandparents at their lake house. It’s still my favorite pudding. And yes it needs a little vanilla.

the lack of vanilla is actually a war crime, all tapioca needs vanilla

Salad spinners aren't for tossing salad, they're for drying your lettuce.
Edit: Alright, I actually have to mute these notifications because they are being too numerous.

“Shut your mouth Jonny it’s the depression, you’re lucky you’re not licking plaster of the walls.” had me dying 😂

My mother made this brand of tapioca pudding for our family in the early 80s. We did not get to have a lot of treats or sweets growing up, so it was one of the greatest foods she made for us. To this day, I still make it. Thank you for reminding me of a happy memory. ❤

Bob’s Red Mill has the best tapioca pearls and the best recipe. You beat the egg whites into a meringue-like texture and fold the pudding into it so it’s like a cloud. It’s so good made with coconut milk!

Hey Dylan a recipe suggestion here that my mother used to make for me first around about 1987 name Sunday Sandwich
Begin by mashing 1 boiled potato slowly adding in 3 tablespoons of butter and 1/4 cup of milk then mash 1 medium carrot and add 1 tablespoon of honey and mix the two mashed together.
Assembly.
Get one ready made Yorkshire pudding ( aunt Bessie’s is the best change my mind), hallow out the centre, add sauces corresponding to the meat you want to use: chicken - gravy; lamb - mint sauce; pork - apple sauce, then add the mashed veggies, top with: broccoli; cabbage; cauliflower and the meat. Optional drizzle of the sauce you chose and enjoy this savoury sandwich composed of a typical Sunday lunch in the UK.

When I was little my mother would add just a bit of jam into the centre of a bowl of it before it set. Made for a nice little surprise in the middle.

I like salad spinners cause they're meant to get the water off your lettuce after you wash it
Cause lettuce is FILTHY
But dressing doesn't cling to wet lettuce well 😭

The range of facial expressions you have is so wide. They're so... Expressive. Lol. It always gives me a good chuckle. Hope you're doing alright and, as always, thank you for the entertainment and the laughs.

I grew up having tapioca pudding regularly, so I'm used to it. It does need vanilla, though, as another commenter pointed out. My family uses the granulated version, and we use tapioca starch as a corn starch alternative, too. This was often made when someone wasn't feeling well, but also as a pretty regular treat. Just an all-around comfort food for our family.
