After reading an immense number of comments it seems that this is an international dessert with a variety of names, versions and most of all, memories. Amazing how food can bring us together. Thank you.😌

UK here, i had forgotten this! You can make similar with old fashioned cube jelly & a can of evaporated milk! Let the jelly liquid cool a bit then whisk in the evap. Thank you for reminding me, its delicious.

Mom made a dessert very similar to this recipe. She called it “cherry fluffy”. She mixed the dissolved cherry jello with a tub of cool whip, a can of cherry pie filling and a small can of drained crushed pineapple. Sometimes she added nut pieces to the top. It was absolutely delicious and very easy to make.

My mother taught me to make this recipe when I was a young girl. It’s absolutely delicious! We would also line the bottom of the dish with fruit or crushed cookies, before pouring the mixture over to set. You can use any instant jello flavour, and if you don’t have whipped cream, chilled evaporated milk will work just as well 😍❣️

My mother made a version of this called “Strawberry Fluff”🍓... she dissolved the smaller sized jello with 1/3 cup of boiling water, when cooled she added almost an entire container of cool whip, and depending on the season, she added either freshly macerated and sweetened strawberries ( 2 cups ) or thawed frozen ones into a large casserole dish, where she’d previously spread chunks of angel food cake into an untreated 9x11 glass dish ... The wet ingredients were poured over the cake, and it was covered and put in the fridge until set! She used the saved cool whip for adding a dollop on top with a strawberry! This can also be made with all sugar free and low fat ingredients and it still tastes good! My sister in law has used raspberries too! I hope you try it😉
PS. Only cut the number of pieces you’re serving at a time and it will stay fresh for several days!

My mom made this in the 50's and 60's. I believe she used cool whip, or the powdered whipped cream they still sell today. Delicious and light.

FYI: Being diabetic, I tried making this using "sugar free" cherry jello. When I added the cherry jello to the heavy cream, apparently the Aspartame caused the heavy cream to instantly curl. So I bought several boxes of different flavored jello that use sugar as the sweetener. I'll have to adjust my diet on days that I plan to eat this. I recall my mother making something similar to this, but that was 50+ years ago & I forgot all about it. Thank you for posting this!
UPDATE: It had to be the Aspartame that caused the heavy cream to curl. I just made it again using orange jello (sweetened with sugar) & it came out great! I put the jello in my refrigerator for 30 minutes to cool before adding to the heavy cream that was in the blender & slightly whipped. I have a Ninja Turbo Blender & I whipped the heavy cream for 30 seconds before adding the cooled jello. The 2 ingredients turned into a whipped cream type mixture after only 10 seconds in the Ninja Blender. I added 5 drops of Orange Oil & that gave it stronger orange taste. I was cautious the cream may turn again from the citric acid from the orange & it's even shown in the ingredients for the jello. But the citric acid had no effect on the cream. The orange jello has a great taste. I'm anxious to try Cherry, Berry Blue, Raspberry & the many other flavors available. It's something different & a great dessert.

My grandmother made this with powdered milk instead of cream. She chilled the jello till just jiggly and beat in 1/3 to 1/2 cup powdered milk with a hand blender and poured it into custard cups to chill. I still love it.

Looks delicious! I would add fresh cut strawberries and for the bottom part..a graham cracker crust!

My grandmother made something similar, we called it crumbly jello desert. Bottom layer was a Graham cracker crust, middle layer had strawberry jello with drained canned fruit cocktail, and rip layer was the jello mixes with cool whip. To this day someone makes this desert every holiday.

I’d be interested in putting it on a bed of crushed graham crackers, add sliced strawberries and drizzle with some chocolate and/or a dollop of whipped cream.

Even here, in the very south of Chile, is a common desert made with evaporated milk. Love it!!

My mom has made this for years and my daughter’s favorite. She did 1 package of Jello Pistachio pudding, 1 can of crushed pineapple with the juice, 1 cup of cream…whipped and folded in mini marshmallows.

My mum made this for us growing up. She used a can of evaporated milk and called it "Milk Jelly" ❤ We loved it x

My mom used to make this back in the 60’s calling it a Bavarian. Sometimes adding fruit like strawberries, depending on what flavor jello she used. Our favorite was lime with crushed pineapple

Oh I’ve been doing this but substituting Greek yogurt instead of heavy cream (less calories lol and it’s still yummy) but yah it’s an awesome idea!

My mother made this all the time; it’s just basically mousse. No oil, and we always had it in little stemmed glass dessert cups. 👍🏽

I used to make this as a low calorie dessert option at Christmas time. It was one of my Mom's favorites. I'd use sugar free Jello and would sometimes blend in fresh berries. To class it up a bit, I'd pour it into parfait glasses and serve as individual desserts.
