I bought my first business at 21. We did a 12 month deal and I paid him monthly payments. It was a small landscaping company. He gave me all his equipment, trailer, and maybe low end 15-20 clients.

How did I find it?
I asked everyone I knew if they knew anyone selling a business. That was 2015. I’ve now turned that landscaping company into a Christmas light company that generates the same amount of revenue per year in just 2 months out of the year.

My advice to anyone looking to buy a business is be willing to work it as a job for a good 5 years. If you aren’t willing to do that, then you probably aren’t a “business owner”. You’re probably just great at sales or great at marketing. Doesn’t mean you can run a business.

And for all the bad ass operators out there. Just because you are good at painting, doesn’t mean you’re going to be good at running a painting business. You might be more of operations manager. Most people who are great at skills, are fit to be a business owner because they never find someone as skilled as they are.

Just some tips from a young 30 year old who has been doing this for 10 years now.

That’s what happened to my business. I built a healthy prepared meal service, Naked Chef Meal Prep, over 5 years. Our food was excellent, great customer following and reputation but growth was slow because of insufficient marketing. I couldn’t raise capital to grow the business and couldn’t sell. Competition became stiff since all the other larger companies were spending over $100K a month in marketing. After working 120 hours a week for 5 years, it definitely hurt to shut it down. After 3 years being closed, customers from around the country still message me about it.

They're not businesses, they're jobs. The capital (like the cameras, in your example), get sold. There is no "YouTube ad revenue", or ANY recurring, passive revenue, in 99% of the businesses for sale in the first statistic. Boomers have "businesses" like "plumber". Sell the truck, sell the tools, and close the shop. There's no recurring, passive revenue. It was always a job, never a business.
