When I went through treatment in 2012 they didn’t give me my certificate of completion because I said I wasn’t comfortable with AA meetings. I went to treatment for opiates and barbs. So they said I can get the certificate if I agree to go to AA meetings. I said that sounds like I’m being coerced. Then some lady that was pretty out to lunch in her own “recovery” said “if you had cancer you’d go to a doctor, AA is the same thing for addicts”. When I heard that I knew, this is a dark thing. My best friend on the other hand is an alcoholic and it really saved her. Was it her choosing to be saved? Yes lol but even now she doesn’t really go anymore. We went to one last night and I can tell it’s something familiar to her that makes her feel better but we both talk all the time about how our recovery is in our hands alone. It’s up to US.

Maybe *that* guy is a narcissist and he can’t see beyond his own experience, lol. I know one of their bumper sticker phrases is “look for the similarities not the differences, ” but blanket statements (and misuse of psychological jargon/diagnoses) help nobody 🙄 good luck with work! You can do it! ❤
