It works on PS5 as of April 8th 2023, using DS1 from Dark Souls Trilogy (PS4).
1) Buy the arrows and close the menu.
2) Open up inventory and go to the item you want to duplicate/consume, press X -> Change order -> X and go to the second slot in inventory, then press X again, then O.
3) Make sure the item is in focus (orange background), then press L1 and down. You should now be on the Brightness options.
4) Press X quickly followed by R1. If you get the normal inventory showing, press L1 and redo step 4, repeat until you get a screen showing "Brightness" in the upper left corner and "OK | Defaults" as buttons.
5) Press Down -> X -> Down -> Down -> Down -> Down until you arrive at Quit Game, then press X again. You should now get a dialogue showing "Use item, specify quantity", press Down -> Left -> X. DONE! 👍🏻

For PC users
Hover over the "quit game" with your mouse on the left side, if you hear 2 or more menu sound (that "clink" when you select something on the menu) it means it didn't work and you'll lose the item.

IMPORTANT FOR PC USERS:

Since PC has an additional option ("PC settings") when you go down to "quit game" you end up on "drop item" rather than "use item" in the other menu.
There are other videos about the glitch for the PC users, but it can also work using the method from the video. But to work on PC you need to do a thing with the mouse.

So, after you select OK on Brightness, don't go down to Quit Game, instead use your mouse to reach "Quit game" (highlights in orange) and so press ok on the controller (do not click with the mouse).

After failed and then successful experimentation, what gets duplicated is the 2nd item in your list of items, yes, and how many of that item gets duplicated is determined by the last quantity of an item that your game asks you how many you want to use/drop/buy and so I discovered by simply prompting to discard your own arrow stock (mine was 381) the game remembers this quantity and so skip to the step where your consumable item is in the 2nd slot of items and poof, *when the glitch is successful* you will be swindled into consuming that prompted amount of the consumable. Sure it’s useful if you want to “window shop” and see the maximum amount, but you also have to have access to a merchant however sometimes you’re like me and not in a safe area!

Heres my strategy for pc:
1. Buy 999 arrows
2. Place the item you want to dupe below estus
3. Scroll over to the arrows, click drop and select 999, but press cancel
4. Do the menu glitch where both menus show up like in the video, click ok under brightness once its done.
5. Use your mouse and move your cursor to the brightness button in settings but dont click it, and use your controller to scroll down to quit game

It worked on Xbox One X. Note that if you are playing with a female character, you must hold your weapon with both hands before starting the process.

Just did this as of May 6th 2023. 2 important things to note,
1: It can't be boss souls it needs to be regular souls you pick up like Brave Warrior, etc.
2: It only worked for me when i used my mouse to hover over the quit game button instead of using the dpad

Hello I want to give some guidance on how to do this on console (specifically PlayStation but it should work for every platform)

For it to work I higly suggest pressing X first and R1 after, this will make the menus overlapping process easier.

If the duplication doesnt work or it doesn't allow you to go up to 99/999 just exit and re-enter the game, do the exploit again and it should work.

10/11/2024: Glitch works perfectly. Did it 3 times in a row (souls and humanity) got close to 60 mil souls. Do exactly as he says in the video. I am on Xbox so it’s (a) then (RB) with a slight delay between pressing them each. Thanks man for this!

Just found you can just select the option to drop 999 arrows (or any item I imagine) and follow the same steps, no need to go to a merchant 😁 Also make sure you press down when selecting quit game rather than pressing up and cycling to the bottom of that menu like you'd usually do

Doing this exactly how it says but every time after I press A and RB to get to the overlapping screen after pressing OK it doesn’t bring me to the quit game screen it just says use item, drop, change order, reset order

Hey just wanted to say, I commented on another one of your videos you uploaded a year ago under Daisy Shields, that glitch I couldn't get to work no matter how much I tried but I literally tried this one (which cut out the whole drop item arrow thing) and it worked legitimately on my 4th or 5th time I wasn't counting. So if anyone was getting frustrated and found this video, I can 100% assure that this glitch specifically still 100% works on the Xbox One X Dark Souls Remastered edition.

Edit; The drop item portion is still required! What I'm doing is putting my soul consumables into my bottomless box and doing the glitch once, resetting bonfire and taking one soul out to use, redo the arrow drop part, and it works again. So just a slight addition but still EZ!

I finally got this to work on the switch (December 5, 2023) just want to add a few things to make it easier:
1) Drop one of the arrows first before trying the glitch to allow the glitch to use multiple items
2) if you're unsuccessful so far as many other comments have said, you're probably pressing the buttons together too quickly. Press the input button first and then press the right trigger (the button that switches the menu to the right)
