How slow can you go in each gear? I compare three different manual cars.

I drive three different manual cars and demonstrate how slow each car can go in each gear on a flat and uphill. I also explain the difference between the minimum gear speed in both petrol and diesel cars. I demonstrate how you can tell how slow your car will go in each gear using the rev counter without stalling. This video should also help you judge when to change down gears.

I am starting to think that this whole channel is an advertisement campaign for Seat Leon. What an exceptional learning car.

I love how the seat leon has been maintained. For 168459 miles on the clock, it's going strong!!!

I am Indian, and I can say you're the best instructor I have ever had. I have been struggling a lot, but nobody seems to explain things as patiently and calmly as you do! .. My instructor would just scold me and get disappointed, even though it's only my second day n wouldn't even explain the concept. So, yes..I am really in debt to you now after learning so much from your . I just can't thank you enough.

my ND MX-5 gear stick shakes from time to time as well! that's the rawer driving sensations you used to get from older cars, nice to see that revived on cars this modern

- cars normally stall ONLY when you press the brake and force the gear below its minimum speed

- no need to worry about stalling or struggling without pressing the gas in most cars (the car will just maintain the gear's minimum speed)

Thanks a lot, Richard ❤ The demonstrations are really meaningful to me. Now, I much more understand the function mechanisms of those pedals as my feet are keeping busy on it. I realized even if I do nothing off all of the pedals, the vehicle would still function well in low pace, and it helps a lot for me to cope with the situations in variation. The mechanisms of how the vehicles operate do crucially help for driving skill on the road. 🌹

Mx5 has a super light flywheel! probably why it struggles a lot in low revs. Great video as always though. Greetings from New Zealand

This is great, thanks Richard. I've been driving since 2009 and have picked up a few tips from your videos. I recently brought a 1.4L 2014 Leon FR and loving it, such a good car. Sport Mode is a nice touch when I want a bit of fun! Cheers, Ben

Excellent video as usual! I drive a Honda Civic Si (2020) and noticed I can go pretty slow in 3rd gear. I haven’t “pushed” my car to struggle though so I’ll have to give the experiment a try to see if I have those same issues with my Honda.

Could you explain what to do when you're in the "dead zone" between 1st and 2nd gear? What I mean is that you're going too slow for 2nd but potentially too fast for 1st as I've heard downshifting into 1st isn't great for the car when already moving.

There’s a pretty steep-inclined backroad behind my go-to grocery store. I’ll try this exercise. Thank you!
