I still don’t understand the AI problem. Except for the fact that humans will program it to carry out nefarious and devastating objectives. But the idea that consciousness will sprout out of it and it will go off script and do whatever it wants is to me ridiculous. It can always be reverse engineered. Humans cannot be, save for psychology, which is still in its infancy. We understand so little about the inner workings of the brain and how it relates to consciousness. A computer is a computer, it does not think. It computes. An extremely complex computation is still separate and apart from thinking. But that last point is precisely perhaps what we disagree on.
