Windows 10S: faster, better battery life, and limited to Microsoft Store only apps.

That last part doesn't sound good but wait, let me explain why it is necessary for the future of Windows.

Hey guys, before you freak out on me lol Let me just say that I also agree that Windows 10S is limiting and the fact that there's apps that I use all the time missing from the app store would stop me from using it. I was just trying to illustrate the issue Windows has as an ecosystem and why a new version like this is necessary for Windows to improve. I also agree though that it's a very slim chance that 10S will single-handedly do that :) Hope that clarifies!

I was worried because I just bought a very cheap HP laptop with 10S for someone who has never even used a computer. He wants to learn and I am happy to teach him. Your video made me feel very confident that I purchased the perfect starter laptop for an older person. There is a market for 10S. It may be children & grandparents but that is huge market/demographic ETC. Thank you for this video.

Students use Chrome. Actually, no. Everyone uses Chrome. But you can’t on 10S. Just buy yourself a Chromebook.

This would be good, if it actually didn't limit users so much. The huge selection of compatible programs and apps is the only thing that keeps me using windows instead of MacOS or Linux, I am sure they can fix all (or at least most) of the current issues and get some of the same improvements without limiting users to the Microsoft Store. They surely don't lack the resources to do so.

I hate the fact that they went through that 'Two OS in One' route back in Win8, that's why it was so unpopular. Istead of making win32 better, they created another OS that runs on top of Win32. One is buggy and obsolete, but has so much more software; while the other runs better, looks prettier, but is incomplete. And now we have to go through different setting apps. It's just so confusing

Windows 10S is a neat idea but the number of useful apps in the Store is really small. You can't even install chrome because it's not there. Microsoft offers the tools to package regular apps and put them on the store but I don't see that happening soon. Also, how will this affect developers? What if I want to use Android studio and I need to install java? Those are win32 apps and I don't see them being ported to uwp and still work as intended. Maybe I'm wrong but sandboxing means isolating from the rest of the system. So an app needs to be self contained (all it's dependencies and plugins need to be installed as well). What if 2 apps share some dependencies? You see where I'm going? Lots of duplicated stuff meaning more storage needed. Now, I'm sure this can be addressed somehow and I haven't done the research into it but it still sounds like a step backwards.

I got the new Microsoft surface go version 2 and I'm loving the S mode. I was able to download all my programs that I needed included WPS. I feel the s mode is more secure and runs much better than Windows home.

Is steam on the Microsoft Store? If not it could be a huge deal for gamers if it could be incorporated.

The idea of apps being separate isn't a totally new thing, OS X has been doing it for the longest time. In my opinion we should have the option to select between using the app store only and using Legacy apps similarly to what Apple is doing. We shouldnt need a seperate OS to do this, a checkbox in a settings dialog would be far better and easier to understand.

People commenting on how restricting it is should have a look at the app store, I could do most if not all my daily tasks relying on just the app store, that being said though I'm still gonna stick with my legacy stuff.

Thoughtful video. Nicely done. We'll see what happens, but it is likely to be a long-haul process to get this to catch on.

Some features I didn't know were there and this is an old video, I think if MS made this with all previous versions of windows 10 would be a better step, but also think this kind of windows 10s is something meant to mobile devices (ask Dan and Mr. Mobile they should know :P ).

Nice info man, video liked as always.

we just need more apps on the store, then it's semi-ok. i'd need chrome, photoshop cc (not elements), pushbullet, discord (not in the web), and more. i'd like a more adult version of autodesk sketchbook like i get from the .exe version.

When you said "catch 22", the first thing I thought of was my Win10 phone.

Windows 10s sounds terrible I want freedom, I like the sound of the windows apps which I can get on windows 10 if I wanted at any time plus normal apps, apps like chrome, YouTube, etc. Would need to be put in the Microsoft store, I’m always staying with the full windows I want to use any app rather than a few good one on the store

Just curious as to what have you heard on the iPhone X being discontinued?

The push back from power users and techies is not allowing windows to evolve. The same can be said about windows 8 because desktop users refused to learn a new ui. That's why windows 10 exists. It seems Apple and Google approached this catch 22 correctly by offering two different operating systems for different computing platforms by having the normal user majority dictate their success. Now that mobile chips are becoming closely competitive to PC chips, both companies are trying to get their mobile market to replace the PC market. I think Microsoft's approach to create one OS across multiple device platforms is a good idea but they should've gave users and developers windows s running on windows on arm first. They should've made WOA as a replacement to Windows phone/Windows 10 mobile where Windows S makes more sense.

What an OS that does NOT allow me to use Chrome, Steam, AdBlock, etc. etc. and I now I get to pay for all of my apps? Well, SIGN ME UP!

If Microsoft would let developers make alternative browser code than I'd agree with you. But it doesn't look like they're going to budge on that. So no Chrome, no Firefox, just Edge. Because of this, I think it's gonna do about as well as Win RT did. Microsoft's doing basically all the right things here, it's just sad that they won't allow Google or Mozilla to port their apps over.
