I sent this one to my daughter, who has her second pro fight coming up on the 16th. While she trains and fights in Muay Thai, there are some things from boxing that translate to her sport as well. Let's hope that she applies this to her training soon enough to where it'll start showing up in her fights. If your other videos are as consistently well thought out and explained as this breakdown, I'll be sure to like, subscribe, and share.

Beautiful breakdown brother, as boxers we are always taught the jab is the most important punch for many reasons but this just added another depth to my understanding. Thank you very much keep up the work 🤜🏽

oh yeah keep mid and close range fighters away using a jab, thats a classic outfighter technique. But lets be honest, Bivol's main weapon there was not even his jab, but his extremely good footwork. Pure soviet shuffle style at its finest. Canelo was just way too static, allowing bivol to get closer, throw a long range combination or a jab, and shuffle away quickly. Footwork was like 60% of Bivol success. The remaining ones are the jab, timing, stamina, etc.

Great analysis! Canelo is a type of fighter to lean in for a punch to establish his rhythm, hence why "the jab" from Bivol cancels or disrupt Canelo's rhythm as he leans in. Canelo also isn't great fighting at the back foot, that's why everytime he back pedals Bivol punishes him while at range so that Canelo can't counter all because of his Jab. Beautiful Boxing!

Such an excellent breakdown that shows how to build off your jab and what the oft-repeated phrase "establish the jab" means

Excellent analysis. Thank you! One of the best breakdowns explaining the source of Bivol's success. I really appreciated the very granular, freeze-frame examinations explanations. Boxers at this level are so fast and quick that you have to freeze them in time to analyze. Really appreciate your time and expert care devoted to these videos. Keep 'em coming please!

Keep the punches long don’t over commit with hard shots, and ready to make quarter pivot turns base on the punches thrown, what is to be noted is that using your feet non stop and throwing punches in high volume requires serious cardio, and not just long distance running.

Solid explanation and well presented ideas - build up to more combinations by reading your opponent and exploiting opportunities when they arrive, but also knowing when to change gears and alter pace to prevent opponent from building momentum. Good stuff brother

This was super helpful! I think integrating combinations into sparring is really difficult, and getting from single punches to multiples is also hard. I tended to think in 'keep throwing jabs until you throw a combo', and had no logic to building up the combos. I'm gonna try this technique, of building off of the jab to expand combos. It makes a lot of sense!

Great simplified analysis with the slow motion video. When sparing It is difficult for me to see how my opponent opens up but this video helped with that and the technique of building on the jab!!

He's establishing the long guard behind the jab. He is using the guard to blind, block disrupt and establish his relentless offensive.

He definitely established his jab. And the jab doesn’t have to do physical damage only, but also psychological damage like you explained. Once you got them scared or hesitant to throw a punch, that’s when the combination begins.

Great analysis. Bivol sort of reminds me of old school Nick Diaz. One must study the way Bivol works his game and apply it when we spar or step in the ring. It's something about the Soviet style of training that gives master technicians like this
