Mapping in Permaculture
Показать описание
Mapping can be done remotely, anywhere in the world for any location. Permaculture designers use a body of known facts—science—to find patterns for piecing together productive properties. In order to do so, we need to know everything about a site, not just location (distance from equator, altitude, distance from ocean) but also the specific features. We need to identify the strengths and limitations of a site to provide a harmonious, high-performance design. This digital mapping method shows every physical object—roads, waterways, buildings, trees, etc—on a site, as well as the contour lines, so that designers can recognize where best to put houses, gardens, food forests, roads, grazing areas, farm forestry, and reintroduced wild spaces. With that, we can create abundant cycles and ongoing fertility that will outlast us. Take a look at maps—satellite map, color elevation map, slope map—of Zaytuna Farm, Geoff Lawton’s 66-acre demonstration site to get a glimpse of what LIDAR mapping can do. LIDAR can be used for mapping individual properties, as well as communities, tracking the entire watershed around a region so each household can understand the full potential of their plot. That’s the ideal use for this technology!
