Permaculture Sector Maps: Basics and how I use them

Sector Maps are a part of the Permaculture Design process that lies atop your base map and works well alongside Zone maps. I am new to this, but the process is helping me so much that I wanted to share the concept.

This is a useful step in design that exposes risks, strengths, weaknesses, and strengths. It helps with placement of key features but also designing around the present and/or uncontrollable ones. We can apply this at almost any scale, I reckon, from urban permaculture to large systems.

Thanks for clarifying this. I got a map of my farm from Google maps. It was up to date, thankfully. I wondered how I would go about incorporating the various changes and plans I needed to make on it. Sector maps are the answer. I am about to start marking contours for swales in a few days. This info came at the right time.

Clearly it's handy to know this stuff when planning where to have your house, garden and live stock. Was wondering how you picked where best to put them before you started. Did you already have that information. When you started and planning the lay out. Especially about wild fires did not think about that. Great video.
