AI/Deep Learning Super Resolution VHS Restoration to HD

This 11 seconds took 4 hours of processing.

Deinterlacing, Colour Correction, HDR processing and noise removal using Neat Video also applied.

Mh. Honestly mostly looks like over-sharpening so that edges get more contrast which leads to a much harder look and takes away details in the shadows.

This is not AI, it's simply deinterlaced and the contrast enhanced. I find the image on the left far easier to look at to be honest

While at first glance the upscaled version looks a lot better, as I pay attention to it more my brain can actually interpret/pick up certain details in the original footage that the AI version just doesn’t have. The baby has an artificial look to its face while the baby in the original looks more authentic

It's something like magic, never see nothing like this, able to rebuilt pixel that doesn't exist! Something like Scott's Blade Runner..

Hi Rob, very interesting job. My hobby (paid, actually a work) is digitalize VHS. i m an "entrepeneur", i do this since i was 15, but now i study electronic engineering and friend, from there, told me about AI (deep learning) for image quality enhancing. Where i can learn about this? Do you keep doing this? Do you have more samples? Does it worth (doing the restoration an HD proces? Is there any social site where people talk about this? You would have gotten better and much faster result with conventionnal video editing software in my opinion. AI upscaling really don’t work well on VHS from my experience. What people must be excited about is simply the color fix and it take 1 min to do in a software like adobe premiere... Color restoration and slight de-noising the image and that would be over!
