Can Topaz Video Enhance AI software restore old videos to their former glory?

What if there was a tool that could enhance old VHS or SD footage to FULL HD?

If you've seen ads for such software as Topaz Video Enhance AI and want to know if it can actually make a difference without shelling out $300 you came to the right video.

The challenge with upscaling video is by enlarging the pixels it makes for blocky video.

So what needs to happen is that missing information needs to be filled in with some kind of intelligence.

This is where Topaz comes in and it uses artificial intelligence or machine learning to fill in the missing information.

This video isn't sponsored but we were curious to see how well it would perform in tests on old family footage.

So does this mean when they say "zoom and enhance" on a movie or TV show, as they have been for 40 years or so, they'll actually be able to see the invisible murder suspect if they use this software?

i bought it and i do not want to miss it, for one, most cameras offer more fps in lower resolution so you can just scale it up nicely, the other reason is corporate videos and weddings and other video jobs had me to include horrible videos from the past. For example i made an image video for a bakery and they had some very old video from the bakery from 30 years ago. So proper upsacling help a lot here. The Topaz apps are a abolute must for me

That VHS footage to HD looks so good! Can you upload a longer version of it?

This software is perfect for upscaling 1080p to 4k. The noise reduction alone is leagues above anything else I've tried. It's best for when your footage is already good and you're just looking for the cherry on top 👌

This is an very extremely useful tool, not only for archive material but also during the pandemic for use on mobile phone and zoom footage where we've had to rely on "home produced" pieces to camera which mix with existing stock footage. It's not a magic wand but it's good, and of course it also funds continuing work on the software. I've had several updates already as they hone the AI.

It's important to realise you can't go from SD to 4K. THAT'S going to take a while. I use this on selected shots rather than long pieces but I alerted a friend at Goldcrest about this and they were impressed enough to buy it too, so clearly regarded well by a mainstream production house.
Thank you so much for your sharing this video 👍👍👍.

I've had varying success with it, mostly upscaling standard-definition video to HD. No, it won't fool anyone into thinking it's true HD footage but it does do a pretty good job on most things I've thrown at it.

Absolutely, it's a excellent explanation to know a little more about "Can A.I. I've been using the Topaz products for the last year and now can't live without them. Great products.

The software is great at upscaling videos to HD or UHD. Video Enhance AI is probably the best consumer software to enlarge videos from standard definition like 480i to 4K or 8K. It can also upscale interlaced videos that were originally on TV.

I use VEAI pretty much as shown in your video, getting good results, love it. To date most of my work has been with 8mm and Super 8mm.

I use Topaz Video Enhance for over a year now, and I got it as part of package for last year "Black Friday" where you got their entire lineup of software for $200. And I payed it off in first day of use!
I work as 3D artist for one cruising company; I render out interiors and exteriors of ships that are in production. And often, I need to render out walkthrough animations quite fast for design team and owners to review changes. For that, it's not super important to have crisp sharp details, so speed over quality is priority. That's where this software gets handy; Instead of rendering full HD (1080p) animation and paying like, $30-$50 for a 15 sec sequence on render farm, I render out HD animation (720p) for less than half price of full HD animation, and later use Topaz to upscale it to full HD. Difference between upscaled frames to 1080p and frames rendered at native 1080p is minimal since source is artifact free and good quality, so final quality is completely OK for what I need it. And first day I got this software, I needed to render out batch of animations that would cost me over $500 if rendered in full HD, but I rendered them in HD and payed just above $200, so I saved just in that one batch entire cost of Topaz software and a bit more.
And when I render out native 1080p and upscale it to 4k, difference is so minimal, that I do it now that way for final renders and don't render in 4k anymore.

When it first came out over a year ago, I tried it. On a minute clip back then, it took a long time to do. I used some clips from HD and SD as well as some old super 8mm films that I have on DVD. Hopefully, things are looking up now.
Yours appeared to be superior to mine.

I mainly use it for old 90's VHS tape recordings from TV when my favorite band was on TV. When the original source can not be found anymore, it's nice to have VHS recordings of it. Topaz really makes it look better. Not with more detail but with less 'fuz'. It becomes a more cleaner image. It can also convert 25 fps interlaced video to 50 fps progressive video. Makes the video's look very smooth. Love it. Also for early HD footage from around the year 2010, it does miracles making it look a bit more up to date. A good program

Great videos. Ive used this same technique in the past to upscale old documentary footage. Hopefully Topaz AI eventually releases a video upscaler so we dont have to do the whole frame export thing.
